Spirit-Dragons game to proceed
The National Basketball League (NBL) has confirmed that the Sydney Spirit's home game against the South Dragons on Saturday will proceed as scheduled despite the default notice served on the club on Wednesday.
Interim Chief Executive Officer Scott Derwin confirmed that the match would go ahead as planned at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre at 7:30pm on Saturday, but would now be played under the auspices of the NBL and Basketball Australia.
The owners of the other NBL teams however banded together to agree to provide a rescue package for the club by drawing on money from a surplus in a previously unused emergency fund. The Spirit players and coaching staff met with the League on Friday morning and, despite being asked to take a significant decrease in salary for the remainder of the season to ensure basic running costs for the team could be met, voted to field a team on Saturday.
The proceeds from ticket sales to the remainder of the Spirit's home games will go directly towards paying the players and coaching staff.
Tickets are priced at $10 for adults, $5 for children (13 and under and $25 for families (2 Adults + 2 Children or 1 Adult + 3 Children) and are available through Ticketek.
