Goorjian escapes press conference fine

Anyone know the full story? Did he go to the required spot and there was no one there, or wait and no one came to get him?

Brian Goorjian has escaped a fine but has been reprimanded by the National Basketball League (NBL) for failing to attend a post-match media conference following his team's 106-101 victory over the Sydney Spirit at the Sydney Entertainment Centre on Friday night.

NBL interim Chief Executive Officer Chuck Harmison said that after the League office investigated Goorjian's failure to attend the compulsory post-match press conference, it became clear that there were extenuating circumstances in the case but that they did not completely absolve the coach.

"After seeking information from both teams as well as neutral parties, it became clear to us that there was a breakdown in some of the standard post-match procedures on the Spirit's part that contributed to confusion regarding Brian Goorjian's media requirements on the night," said Harmison. "Goorjian did not leave the building and we have confirmed from speaking to neutral sources that he was in fact still waiting courtside in the Sydney Entertainment Centre when the press conference was supposed to have taken place. As a result, in this case we have chosen not to fine Goorjian the standard $1,000 for non-attendance.
The quote "when the press conference was supposed to have taken place" suggests that there was actually no press conference or that the Spirit stuffed up the schedule?

So was Rob Beveridge there- did he show up or did they both get the wires crossed along the way?
Sounds like a bit of a storm in a teacup- wouldn't expect much else from Chuck's public comments!

Ch10 news showed Goorjian kinda storming off the bench and off, right on the final buzzer.
Claiming he wasn't happy with that attendance.
Then they showed the press conference with Rod Beveridge.

He seems like a pretty good guy ?
I feel a bit for him, and the team as the on court stuff is good.

Wasn't Smyth warned or fined for not showing up to a conference because no one came to get him?

Yes. There are rules for some and different rules for others.

Does sound like the Spirit had to shoulder some blame for this mistake though, but the NBL seems to avoid those details.
