More to the Monta Story

Further to the Monta story where he has been suspended for 30 games after his Moped accident. The GSW have stated that should he not return to a sufficient level they can extend his suspension to as far as terminating his contract.

The Warriors are retaining the option to extend the 30-game suspension of guard Monta Ellis, possibly all the way to voiding the six-year, $66 million deal he signed in July. Golden State would only throw that switch if Ellis struggles mightily to recover from an ankle injury that is now expected to sideline him until December or January

The Story....

While the link is only brief, it does bring up an answer to what a few of us were wondering in the earlier Monta thread about whether the Warriors could do anything should Monta not come back at his $66mil level.

What are people's thoughts on this? Smart move by the Warriors? Fair?

If it does end up coming tp this i am sure that -

1) The players Union will scream like a cut pig.
2) Monta's agent will scream like a cut pig.
3) Other elements in/around the NBA will scream like cut pigs.

and

4) The Warriors will quiely arrange a jay Williams-like pension-plan (albeit at bigger numbers - maybe 1 million dollars per year for say 15 years) and be done with the whole thing... It's equitable and it doesn't penalize the Warriors much at all... Who have done nothing wrong at the end of the day...

Other than Ellis and his agent would anyone else really scream?

Isn't a part of the NBA rules that players aren't supposed to ride Mopeds (why you would want to anyway?)

If it states in his contract that he has to not do things that may be referred to as dangerous, such as sky-diving, bungee jumping, motor bike riding (which most NBA contracts would have!), then he has breached his contract, which is why he tried to cover it all up. Fair call by GSW!

It's the States Bizzy. Land of the ambulance chasing attorney and fobbing off responsibility for ones own actions... I know about the contact stipulations - but do you really think that these guys will take it lying down - and then all of the crusaders on the periphery will hop on... All i can say is we are lucky Johnny Cochran isn't around (RIP FWIW)...
