Hypothetical: what beats team of 7-footers?

Seeking input into a basketball philosophical: exactly how do you beat a team of 7-footers?

You're an NBA GM: why wouldn't you assemble one? Get a couple of bangers, couple of athletic long ones, couple of decent shooters? How do you counter that?

Offensively, opposition can run - counter with sending all 5 of your 7-footers to the o-boards to force boxouts, or send 4 to the boards (or even 3) and drop the remaining guys back.

Penetrate and kick - counter with really tight closeouts; sure the small guy gets round the first guy closing out, but will look up to see 4 more 7-footers clogging the lane

Pick and roll - counter with switch on all screens and clog the lane with off-ball defenders.

Defensively: press and trap - counter with 5 7-footers keeping the ball above their head and off the floor, moving the ball down the floor with the pass.

Zone - counter with best shooters (your Euro-types like Dirk) to stretch zone and then move ball to find and exploit matchup/situation where small guards big.

Anyone else got any ideas why it can't work? :)

Slightly off the intended idea of this topic, but imagine an NBA team with this roster:

C Boozer
F Ming
F Stoudamire
G Gasol [Can be an outside Shooter]
G Nowitzki [Can be an outside Shooter]
6th Bogut

That would be SCARY.

To get it up the floor just lob it to the biggest mismatch. Then to the 2nd biggest mismatch, and back again. Wouldn't be too hard. I think this would really work if you had a couple of guys that could really shoot the ball.

And if you had a tall PG like LeBron, with Yao, Dirk, Gasol, etc.

a team of speedy guards would beat them down the court after they (the 7 footers) score each time. Then again this would only really be possible after the 7 footers score, not in a defensive rebound fast-break situation.

Anon, love the way you said "Gasol(Can be an outside shooter)"

Gasol is not a shooter and he never will be. His form is ugly and he can't even hit a mid-range shot.

I'd be putting Durant in that team too...

Dr. Bullshit - I think what you are proposing is called Netball.

I think such a team would get killed by any half decent but well balanced side (including several bigs to match up and take rebounds). The 7-foot team would be killed on a high rotation quick offence, and the opposition could keep putting up high percentage looks from outside.

As for putting a 7-foot NBA team together, given their relative rarity, you are talking about a highly expensive team for an untried experiment.
