Jawai Replaced at Rapters

Ok so I'll let everyone back down as it is only temporary as an insurance if Jawai heart problem is worse than first feared.

"Concerned with the health of rookie forward Nathan Jawai (207-C-86, college: Midland CC), the Toronto Raptors inked journeyman forward Jamal Sampson (209-F/C-83, agency: Octagon, college: California) to a non-guaranteed contract on Tuesday.

Sampson hasn't played in the NBA since 2006-07, when he compiled 24 points, 48 rebounds, seven blocked shots and five assists in 22 games (three starts) with the Denver Nuggets.

The 25-year-old has averaged 2.0 points, 3.4 rebounds and 8.8 minutes in 72 appearances (five starts) over five NBA seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Lakers Charlotte Hornets, Sacramento Kings and Nuggets.

He is the cousin of former centre Ralph Sampson, a four-time all-star who retired in 1992.

Sampson was brought in as insurance for Jawai, who is prohibited from participating at training camp because of an irregularity found in a pre-season cardiac screening.

Jawai, 21, is the first indigenous player from Australia drafted by an NBA team, selected in the second round (41st overall) by Toronto in June.

If and when Jawai is cleared to play, Sampson will likely be released.

The Raptors opened training camp Tuesday at Carleton University in Ottawa.
