blue boy - you are a tool. Norwood had a very successful year winning the Summer Premiership and State Champs and for your info Carlo is an excellent coach. He is passionate about what he does and I think he is largely misunderstood from people outside the club. Your comment is a typical snipe from someone who has no idea

yea blue boy, your a fag
carlo is a better coach than you would have ever seen or had, his team got back in after being down by 5-10 twice or three times and unlucky not to win.
get your facts right

I know the new season has not commenced - but the Norwood Div 2 boys are in the Division 2 GF. How will they be placed next year - I assume that a lot are top age kids in this team? or will the team bascially stay the same. There will be a new coach for Norwood Div 1 - will next years Div 1 team be likely to continue their success of this year in Div 2.

food for thought, most of the div 2 players are second years. div 1 will not be that good.

I went to pasadena last night to see the under 20 preliminaries, as i was interested with a couple of comments on this forum saying how high the quality has been this season. With my son already through to sunday weeks' grand final, i thought it would be a good chance to see some quality basketball.

And we weren't let down that is for sure. In the mens games sturt got over southern in a tight, intense game by about 10. Both teams tried until the very end, and i was generally surprised because i have seen in the past that under 20 kids don't usually take this competition very seriously (usually due to senior commitments), but i must congrauate both sides hunger and desperation they showed.

And the womens game was also of the highest quality, with forstville limping over norwood with a huge three at the buzzer, after a tighly fought contest the whole way.

It was a great night of basketball and i will be sticking around to watch both grand finals come sunday that is for sure. Thanks to all teams for the thrilling basketball last night and good luck in the grand finals.

how were sturt dirty in the 16's? any examples?

all i have heard is that norwood got beaten on the night, its been even between these two teams in the past, and sturt just came up with the goods.

It's actually not dirty play by Sturt, but the Sturt style of play is to intimidate and pressure the opponents in defence to make them crack. Teams without structure and discipline do crack and this is the competitive advantage that Sturt uses.

Sturt seem to rely on a 2:2:1 defensive zone structure to hold the ball in the backcourt and force the turnover.

Fouls are a sign of how hard the teams play as well as skill level. A good coach wants some fouls from their team, but skill-error fouls are not wanted.

With the season just gone, my team averaged 11.2 fpg and 16.0 fpg from the opponent. The average from Sturt was 24.5 fpg with a high % of arm fouls (attempting steals) and layup fouls (making them earn the points). (Free throws 9 to 5 normally, 13 to 6 against Sturt)

Without seeing the 16's game, I don't believe Sturt were dirty, they were probably playing their typical game plan which was to pressure the ball carrier with 2 guards trying to reach in and get the steal (and then the fast break layup) and if the ball carrier was laying up, then foul them on the layup to make them earn the points.
