Selection Processes in Elite Sport
There has been a fair amount of criticism of selections across the sporting board relating to Australia's performance at these Olympics. Some have called for the abandonment of the policy of staying with established athletes in favour of youth and of having a more open selection policy in all sports.
The sporting bodies themselves sheet the blame at the lack of money provided to them.
What accountability exists, in the wash-up of dashed expectations, for the elite coaches and selectors who seem to escape the majority of blame and scrutiny? The price of so called failure sits on the athletes shoulders usually?
Does subjectivity play too much of a role in selections? And if it does by the nature of the sport shouldn't failure in those sports result in coach/selector changes because their subjectivity was flawed.
After watching some athlete's post run/game etc interviews maybe we need to ask what personality testing is done if any to ensure athletes with non destuctive team or personal flaws are chosen?
Why are the men seemingly so far behind the women in Olympic results?
