ABL Final - Pissed Off

The Eagles fought back extremely well with hustle, passion and pride. Hoban got a three point play to put them up but on with 3 secs to go. Some guy from Norwood heaves up a half assed shot from half way and it goes in off the glass. Every norwood player player and fan rushes onto the floor and goes nuts. How is that fair? The Eagles clearly deserved to win but it came down to a stroke of utter luck and they had the championship taken away from them. Utter BS.

And by a cheap shot prick as well... think everyone bar norwood hated that shot.

Get over yourself mate. Nothing more than a(nother) biased opinion!

Not every team that deserves to win, wins. These things happen.

(And I'm not a Norwood supporter btw!)

Norwood led the entire game, the eagles were lucky to snatch the lead at the end, but justice prevailed :) good game hey boys!

Forestville had their chances. As stated above they led all game. Also they coulde done more to prevent Norwood getting that final shot off. Plus if Sutton made his free throws they might have won it.

Norwood led almost all game, not Forestville. Your post doesn't really make sense. Where were these chances except in the last quarter?

Sour grapes. Forestville trailed for more than 3/4 of the game. They came good in the last quarter, but it just wasn't enough. Simple as that. The team that deserved the championship more, won it.

I'm not a Norwood or Forestville supporter. Only went to the game coz the wife and kids wanted to go. It has to be the best game I've seen in years and yes, Norwood did deserve to win.

#199577, that is the exact position I am in. I am not a supporter of either teams but did go hoping to see Norwood win. I guess its because I felt sorry for them last year and thought how well they have done to make the finals again. Apart from the fact that they were the superior team for most of the game tonight, they are also the team that made their second consecutive appearance in a grand final this year, unlike Forestville that missed out last year. I am so glad I went because I thought it was one of the best games I have ever seen. The last 3.5 seconds was like something out of a movie. You can just see it played in slow motion because 3.5 seconds is not long enough to let the excitement of it sink in, it just happens so quickly.

Sutton makes foul shots game would have been over but missed both.

Hoban makes foul shot game would have been over.

Anyone chasing the rebound instead of letting Cooper grab it fumble it and then pass it would have won the game.

Kent,
"Hoban makes foul shot game would have been over" correction - game would have gone to OT as there was still time on the clock for Norwood to pass that ball and Webber get it in just in the nick of time.

All I can say about this game is there are truly no basketball Gods. There is no reason to go on. Evil, truly triumphed over good (all SA Basketball except the Norwood mens team) tonight....

Im not a Norwood fan but Eagles didnt want it once they hit the front they thought they'd dont enough and didnt pick up good enough plus if they hit thier foul shots they may of won good to see Norwood win after they were smashed last year bad luck to Eagles that last shot was just a frak shot that 2 outta 10 would of gone down but to jump on here and say it was bullshit is just childish it was a great game to watch and both teams worked hard at different stages dont spoil a great game that people will talk about for ages and every kid that was there will be practising that shot of the next 6 months

Congratulations Norwood!! great win and loved the emotion after the siren!!!!!!!

Another mostly impartial observer checking in - what a finish. Most amazing finish to a basketball game I've seen. Hoban is going to the line, up two and with 3.5 seconds left. Norwood have no timeouts left. To win, the Flames have to wrestle down a contested rebound, escape the throng to find a pass to an open team mate and still sink a shot under massive pressure.

I'd just turned back from telling a non-basketball friend "It's pretty much impossible for Norwood to win now" to see Coops get the board and almost pause like he's trying to work out what it was that needed to be done next.

And then the shot. The ball banked in after the buzzer and the fans swamped the court (haven't seen that in an ABL game before!) - incredible.

Was a decent game the whole way through that got very interesting when Forestville got the lead (at 81-80 I think) and developed from there.

Anyone upset that it was unfair or undeserved must be forgetting that Norwood led for much of the game and weren't that far off the pace before the shot anyway. If Norwood hadn't gone 1/4 FT near the end, it'd be a different story again.

Tthe refs were absolutely biased and did everything they could to help Forestville win in that fourth quarter - non calls on fouls against Norwood and calls on absolutely soft stuff - absolute rubbish and I felt for the Norwood guys on court in that fourth quarter. Glad that Webber hit that shot - I'm sure that was something that the basketball gods intervened in, to ensure that whilst the refs weren't looking out for it, that justice prevailed and Norwood got the win that they deserved. I was so cut just before that shot that they weren't going to get the win, and when it went in, I was absolutely ecstatic for the Norwood boys...

And before you say I'm a Norwood supporter... if you asked me who I followed in CABL, I'd say North. Great game, and the deserving team got the win in the end. Congrats Norwood.

Thread originator - "Some guy from Norwood heaves up a half assed shot from half way and it goes in off the glass." This nameless guy happens to be Andrew Webber, top scorer for the night and Grand Final MVP. If someone had to be blessed with that last shot, who do you think deserved it more? If Eagles wanted the win they should have done more. I cannot understand why such a decorated player like Peter Hoban only contributed 6 points in 28 minutes. Amongst all the "what ifs", this one should rank highly amongst them.

These two shots are priceless, taken seconds apart. First is when Eagles are celebrating thinking they won it. Then the shot went in and you see Norwood's reaction.

Goodluck to anyone who thinks the forestville are over the so called 'salary cap'!!

JOKE!

I know for a fact that the $$ the Matthews and Krause are being paid from Norwood under the table is more then the whole of the Eagles team put together.

1 - 3 possibly game-changing calls made in last quarter.

2 - when you're up by two points with 3.5 secs left, and your team mate misses a foulshot, play some fn defence!!! (granted there was a hand in the face at shot time, but why did he have opportunity to receive the ball???)

3 - I dont care who won, but a great game.

4 - htf do i post my phonecam footage of hobo's f/shot to Webbers prayer going in and celebrations, etc" on Hoops?

MODS - please post instructions asap.

maybe the eagles shouldnt starting celebrating with 3.5 seconds left on the clock - they just lost focus and until fat lady sings or spadge it aint over -
eagles let it slips - contested rebound would have almost done the job and surely deny amny outlet to open player - where were they -
amazing finish - victory snatched but norwood were the better team all night and yet eagles nearly won it but for a moment of concentration
great game ABA alive and well thanks guys and spadge sing on big fella -

How are Forrestville under the Salary Cap?....
Well the Central ABL cap is $15K combined for both ABA men and womens teams.
So say the mens program get a bit more than the womans and get $10K of the ALLOWED $15k

lets fit this team into that $10k
Oakley EX NBL - $5K+
Sutton EX NBL - At least $3-4K
Hoban Stocks rising Maybe $1K
Arnold EX NBL FRINDGE - At least $2-3K
Sullivan Solid Guard - $2k
Gerlach EX NBL FRINDGE - $2k
Pero for 10 games - $2-3K
Dougie, Breeding and the other bench boys maybe $2k total

The team would easy have a budget of $20k +

This is what these players would be getting at any other ABL teams, not just the 2 well paying ones......

I don't support either team but went because I love a good game of basketball. With Norwood and Eagles coming together for a grand final, it was inevitable that a great game would be played. I can't think of anything else I could have done last night that would have been half as exciting as this game and for $10 plus $2 for parking, it was entertainment money extremely well spent. You did not have to support either teams to appreciate a game that is going to stick in your mind for a long time to come. My bet now is that Webber is going to practice that shot a hundred times and probably wont even make it once. The God's were looking down at him last night as though to say that Norwood was the deserving team to win and took a hand in ensuring it happened.

Ok 'me' break down the Norwood men's team then:

Coops - 7k
Matthews - 7k

And that leaves what, $1000 shared between the rest of the team??? I don't think so.

I know Sapwell has had to forgo some of his own pay to keep Matthews in the team this season. He was going to leave as he got offered over 5k from other teams. And that is fact.

So there.

Norwood won ok? So get over the salary cap beatching, you can't admit that Forestville just had a great season with a hard working team that couldn't finish it off in the last 3 seconds of their season. Simple as that! Well done to Norwood- miracle shot won them the championship because they really crapped themselves in those last few minutes and the Eagles almost got them.
