He thought he was leading and the gold was in the bag.
He threw a hissy fit and handed his medal back when it turned out he came third.
Fancy doing that in front of the world- I can understand being upset about your placing, but at least do it quietly behind the scenes if you really, really have to.
I think the only person he really embarassed was himself.
