Olympics: Boomers vs Iran (Spoilers)

Starts in five or so minutes by my calculations.

Ch 7 are showing swimming right now. Reckon they'll switch across or should we just look for feeds on the net?

half time, up by 23. i've only watched a bit but much more hustle, still clueless on defense. trying to run which opens it up for redhage, mills, and newley in the open court. things still seem pretty stagnant in half court offense - usually 4 men out, bogut in the middle.

oh and anstey still doesn't seem too sure what he's doing out there. whether it's defending up too high committing reach in fouls on their PG or its standing on the perimeter in offense facing the wrong way, he is really OWNing no-man's land right now. have the boomers actually been formally introduced to one another?

Boomers look much better today against 2nd rate opposition. They suddenly remembered how to move the ball and shoot! Lets hope this gives them enough confidence to do the same vs Russia and Lithuania.

Newley has looked really good in this game. Barlow has been poor again though. Anyone else imagining how much better we would have been if Sammy Mac was playing SF again?

I don't think you can question the team picked (maybe on or two if you are really picky), this is the best team we have to offer, they just haven't been performing.

Barlow
Worthington
etc.

all have earned their spot. let's hope they get it going.

I have to say it about Mills again, but even Gaze is commenting on just how much the attitude of the team changes with him on the court. The kid has no fear and just attacks constantly, great player to watch a real pity we will most likely never see him in Aus.

Bogut not playing much, Andersons doing a much better job hit atleast 1 three i have seen, when he screws up he seems to dble his efforts to get the ball back aswell.

your right with the confidence beantown, the teams celebrating points on the bench today aswell, they just have to keep that attitude agianst the real teams

Was good to see Redhage got decent minutes today too. He has really done nothing wrong and deserves more minutes.
Patty Mills is the best thing that has happened to the Boomers team since Andrew Gaze. He brings to the team what they need at any given point in time. His major weakness long term wil be his height, and having to guard taller PG's. Australia have never had a PG with his speed and athleticism as far as I can recall.
At least the confidence, work ethic and passion were evident today. Need to keep it rolling against Russia, as they have been struggling in this tournament too. Beat Russia and we finish 4th, beat Lithuania as well and depending on other results, we may finish 3rd and avoid USA. All hinges on our next game I guess.

PS: Newley was awesome today, and thinking further he has been pretty solid all tournament so far. Andersen is getting better and better each game too.

How average is David Anderson playing this tournament -looks like a lainky praying mantis!! Hope he can get out of it....Euro League MVP I expected more (He just nailed a 3 as i wrote this)

I noticed when CJ and Anderson are on our D becomes vulnerable, and our offensive movement slows to a virtual stand still - I don't think they have showed the intensity needed....even today

Much better when Redhage and Mills are on.

I'm just glad that Goorj had the guts to play the young guys and give them a shot as opposed to just playing his favorites who have not been playing so well. Playing newley and redhage in the charity mins agains croatia and argentina showed what they could do.... it was back to 10 pts against argentina after they were on for 2 mins! I hope he continues to play them. Also, I noticed when the ball movement slows it's these guys - mills, newley, redhage that are the ones forcing some offence.

Side note, good to see anstey nail that 3 towards the end....he seems to have lost his touch of late.

All in all, i liked the body language, you could hear the chat and it was good to see some smiles on the court. Sweet dunk on that giant by newley! Less than perfect Defence, although its a million times better than our last few games. I can see the confidence and intensity building, I hope the cobwebs are gone and we can be super competitive in the next match.

SUmming up, given our last 2 games it was a step in the right direction - good confidence building performance.

What do you all think & what did you think of the game?

New name, we've got a TV in the office for all to watch while working.

Good showing by the Boomers that will hopefully give them confidence from here. Still a bit concerned re Bogut, but Newley and co stepped up. Noted that Redhage and Ingles were earlier subs this time around, as many have suggested should be tried.

Is it time that we start Mills - get him 30 mins and give CJ 10 as his backup?

Without a doubt. Goorj needs to adjust his starters. I'm a big fan of these guys, however they're just not delivering as much. Prob Neilson & CJ to start on the pine in exchange for redhage and mills - in my opinion they bring the intensity needed at the start of the game

Good result, Iran seemed like a much improved side since we played them a month or so ago after their summer league and international tournament experience, was good to see us crush them in such a comprehensive manner. Now all we have to do qualify for a knock out match against USA or Spain is defeat the reigning European champions in Russia...

Goorj always learns the lessons far too late in international competition , playing the guys he thinks should get it done instead of showing initiative to formulate or pull the trigger on different strategies for various situations . Also everytime these big time tournaments start our guys look fatigued and with average team morale .

The disappointing thing so far is that we have had guys ( mainly lesser names ) that are willing to get down and dirty and mix it up with the argy bargy and the like and then we have the sooks that think it is all about them .

I love Matty Nielson but he looks like permanently wasted bum , Bogut needs to pull his head out of his vagina and Barlow needs to show some restraint from the perimeter . Worthington is gettin some karmic elbow treatment and CJ is a sour puss .

On the Flipside our young brigade are showing good spirit . Newley , Mills , Ingles all playing hard . Redhage has been good and needs more time , he shows no fear and his unnassuming demeanor is refreshing and needed .

Oh and channel 7 suck the butt .
