Sixers looking at Chuck Long

The Sixers are considering a bargain buy in Chuck Long. Had been playing in WA and currently playing in the SEABL with Hobart Chargers. Looked at his stats and has been ok without being brilliant. People tell me he is very athletic and a good dunker.

Sounds like a porn name...

Why go a bargain when they have recruited so well to date? I know there have been some oustanding pick-ups from SEABL etc (Redhage, Dusty) but I'd still rather see a D-Leaguer or young college grad

I coached against Chuck in the Western Australian Basketball League last year. Chuck is a great dunker but i think his biggest asset is his lock down defense on positions 1 - 3.

Definitely contains a porn name and looks lanky. But if he can dunk + play, I'll take him.

I recon the budget might be tight after getting Bruce.

I've never heard of this guy before so I thought the title was a joke. I was going to suggest we get his cousin Short Pass. Or his brother Hung Low.

The Sixers are NOT looking at Long, you can take it from me!

take it from you hey Mr Anonymous? Right-o!

Anyways, there's very little on the net about this guy, has some US college experience (don't know where unfortunately), and is only 20 years old. Can't imagine the 6ers would seriously be considering him, but we'll find out in the next week or so I guess.

I've got a feeling #474 might know the coach pretty well so i'd listen to what he says!

that's fine, but if he knows the coach well then how bout using a real name? It's hard to take seriously anonymous posters who make unsubstantiated allegations, and that's purely my gripe.

Imagine his name is "Joe" (gives you about as much information as "Paul") - doesn't help much, huh? Rumours come with the territory (a sport forum).

For those interested: Chuck Long's stats

Chuck has been a revelation for Hobart in his time there.

Very consistent 20 and 10 guy in the SEABL.

I think more teams are realising the potential value of plucking imports from the SEABL. Obviously they come cheaper than others, they are already in the country, and have to some extent, an understanding of how the game is refereed.

Redhage is the obvious example of how this can work, but Devries did the same last year and had a good impact with the Razorbacks. Gruber will do similar things for Sydney this year.

If Adelaide are looking for a guy to play 20-25 mpg, off the bench and provide a bit of spark at both ends, then Chuck would be perfect. Especially if $$$ to sign a 'bigger import' are not there.

He's around 6'6, and like others have said, can guard 1-3 pretty well. Has incredible hops and great touch around the hoop. Would certainly be an asset to an NBL team.

chuck played for us last year in the sbl
he is a one man trap, extremely athletic, good touch around the hoop and can stroke the 3 ball and is an all round great guy.

good? man if that was/ is true about powell then thats about the only import that could make me not mind losing hodge

powell was a blessing for the NBL in general

his enthusiasm, his 50 point game, his hustle and passion, he would be an instant fan favourite and give us the best starting 5 in the clubs history

i hope like hell its true

Good luck if it is Powell, I hope for the Sixers sake that Clarke can control his ego so he doesnt become a cancer like he did at NZ - a high scorer whose team suffers because of it.

Having said all that, he may have matured in the interceding years.
