Maher and Sapwell charge something like $220 per kid to pack as many littlies as they can fit into Wayville for their camp over the holidays. Nothing wrong with that, there are similar camps all over Australia, its a good chance for your young joe blow to meet their idols.

This NBL prospects camp is not much more than Maher's camp and involves some of the best elite junior development coaches in the country like Dr Adrian Hurley, Ian Stacker and SJ Breheny, it works out some of the best players in the country against each other will have representatives from almost every NBL program present. The experience for those participating is outstanding.

Many of these kids have participated in state programs, done significant travelling with their clubs and their parents would have invested $10,000s on their basketball over the yrs. Considering the quality of coaching and the exposure they will get this is a relatively small cost.

I am sure there will be very few immediate signings out of this immediately but I dont reckon there will be many out of the other Wayville camps either ;) The athletes will be exposed to the NBL clubs and some ongoing contact and training opportunities will result in alot of cases. Its about the experience and who knows maybe this prospects camp might grow to something special. I am sure next yr they will run it earlier before the NBL teams have their rosters full.

Bargain, the camp cost doesn't include airfares and meals. Plus Rupert and bretts camp doesn't claim to provide some it can't.

The facts remain the same. The 10th - 12th spots on each team will always be a local. Due to the fact that these players don't earn enough to live away from their folks.

Camel you are wrong. I can think of 3 examples out of SA without even trying where SA based players have filled spots 10-12 outside of SA.

Hustle, its a 3 day camp.

Today I heard they did mainly strength and agility testing, similar to the AFL Draft Camp.

I'm hoping to go have a look 2morro or Weds and I'll post if I hear anything else.

Can we stop comparing this to Maher's and Sappwell's camp?

Isnt that for young children?

There apperars to be a very wide range of talent attending. A few realistic chances, many limited players and some that are way off the mark.

I think the idea is good but the timing does not suit teams preparing for finals this weekend!!
