Best Franchise All-Team

Was thinking about the best players in the history of each franchise and it got me wondering, who would comprise the best all time team?

Would probably have to choose the boring one and go with the Lakers.

Magic
West
Kobe
Worthy
Wilt

Baylor
Shaq
Kareem
Scott

Or you could run with either Wilt, Kareem or Shaq at the 4. Would go with Lakers over Boston due to the lack of an all time great point gaurd. Boston with depth at the forwards though.

Others would be Philly, Houstan and Knicks

Bucks would be underrated.

Oscar Robertson
Alvin Robertson
Sidney Moncrief
Bob Lanier
Kareem

Disregarding guys who went to the teams for a season or two. Who else?

Boston!

Russell
Bird
McHale
Havlicek
Cousy (an All-time great PG)

Pierce
Garnett
Dennis Johnson (a great PG)
JoJo White
Sam Jones
KC Jones
Ray Allen

I know KG & Ray have only been there for 1 season, but you could substitute them with Dave Cowens, Cedric Maxwell, Don Nelson & probably a few others from the 50's & 60's.

DB5, that's a fairly handy team!

Reggie Lewis died from a heart condition, didn't think it was drug related.

Kareem & Parish?.... Didn't know they were involved in drugs at all, tell me more. Would surely have tarnished their incredible careers!

Reggie Lewis died of a heart condition often caused by cocaine use. Was rumoured at the time of his death he was right into it.

Kareem and the Chief were both busted for dope.
Cops found it in a package addressed to Parish when at his house for another reason. Parish openly admitted to being a pot smoker over the years.

Kareem was busted driving under the influence of dope, and also caught at an airport once with it in his luggage. He used the excuse that it was to treat severe migraines...

Honourable mention Rasheed Wallace, and good old Jo Jo English (never busted, just played a season here stoned).

He was a great player in his time, but do you honestly think a 6 ft pg with no quicks would even make the league today. He suited the celtics perfectly but his numbers are bloated because he played in a fast breaking team in an era where far more shots were launched; also the team was flat out stacked.

The winners recieved more accolades in the 60's than now and Cousy wouldn't have won a thing without Russell. What I'm saying is if Bill Russell beat out Oscar (triple double season) and Wilt (50 26 a game) in the 61/62 season for the MVP, Cousy's legend is enhanced because he was on a dream team.

He was a pioneer of the game but certainly not at the all time great pg level. Garbage was probably a bit far lol

Mr Clutch... you can say that about Cousy but you started this topic asking for Franchises "All Time" greatest teams. Of course you can't compare different eras as the game gets quicker, the players get bigger, taller, stronger, more athletic.
Wilt was a giant in his day at 7'1" and his only real competition was Russell at 6'9", until Kareem came along later.
Would Jerry West be any good in todays NBA, he wasn't fast or very athletic & is only 6'2"? Same with Oscar!
Will you not be able to put Jordan in there in years to come cos the game will be even faster & more athletic again?

NO you can't really compare past eras with todays game, but that's not what you asked.

BOB COUSY is a legend of the game and has the stats, titles, MVP, All-Star games to prove it!!!

maybe lethal5 if you had accurate information your argument would be more credible.

please be educated.

wilt chamberlain played in what many consider the golden age of centers (nate thurmond, willis reed, kareem, bill russell, walt bellamy, elvin hayes, wes unseld, bob pettit) when the average height was 6'10 as opposed to todays avg center which is around the 6'11 7 ft mark, obviously not a great deal of difference. and to say that chamberlain's only real competition was bill russell is insulting to some of the greats of the game (infact it is said that chamberlain had tougher times against nate thurmond than russell). furthermore jerry west had close to a 6'11 wingspan, which is a much valued commodity in this day and age. in addition he still happens to be one of the most skillful and fundamentally sound players ever to grace a court (it is said that he used to practice so much as a youngster that his hands would be bleeding raw from practicing too much).

however getting back to the arguement at hand. personally i feel cousy was an egotistical, selfish and spoiled star, who was only content to be the main spotlight. russel triggered the fast break, and the celtics happened to have proabbly the deepest rosters of all time (due to no salary cap restrictions) cousy to me is the luckiest all-star of all time.

ohh and to even question the big O's effectiveness in any era is just downright insulting. to big, 6'6 too strong for any SG and many consider the best ever

(wait for the jordan faithful who cannot fathom an alternate answer to the old GOAT question, even tho they've got no education for basis of comparison)

Interesting thread - strange no-one has done Chicago. I suppose it's because the Team would be:

Michael Jordan (of the 90's not the wizards)
11 other blokes who turn up

Possible Team could be
C - Horace Grant
PF - Elton Brand
SF - Pippen
SG - Jordan
PG - Norman Van Lier

C - Luc Longley
PF - Rodman
SF - Bob Love
SG - Jerry Sloan
PG - Ron Harper
UTL - Ben Gordon
UTL - Toni Kukoc

Cousy lucky to be an All-Star? 13 times lucky? I think not!
Who's credibility is at stake now!

I'm simply answering the question for the criteria put forward by Mr Clutch at the beginning. If you wanna think Cousy was just an average player, that's fine, but most would disagree IMO.

Also, I never said West or Oscar wouldn't be any good today. I asked the question, if you read it properly! The game is always getting bigger, faster, etc.

Wilt started in the NBA in 1959, & Russell 1956.
Thurmond came along in 1963 at 6'11", Willis in 64 at 6'9", Hayes in 68 at 6'9", Unseld in 68 at 6'7", Pettit was 6'9", Kareem came along towards the end of Wilt's career!
So IMO it's fair to say that Wilt was a giant among the league for the majority of his career.

I agree that they were all great players of their time, but to say that these guys would all be great today & Cousy wouldn't is what I find wrong.

YOU CAN'T COMPARE ERAS IN ANY SPORTS!!!

i was refeering to the fact that cousy was the luckiest all-star because he had the luxery of the deepest team ever and bill russel. i beleieve his ability is what is at question.

Would bob cousy be a 13 time all-star at the phillidelphia warriors? IMO no.

yeh your heights are pretty much spot on (except for willis who was 6'10). doesnt change the fact that the difference between 6'10 and 7'1 is not that bigger difference and certaintly doesnt have and impact on the players effectiveness (just look at manute bol).

in addition its known that eras 90's and up have inflated heights (ive seen charles barkley listed at 6'7 even 6'8, when in fact he's 6'4 or 6'3) its more impressive seeing your center listed at 7 ft as opposed to 6'11.
