NBL's Young Australian Player (YAP) Program
For those who may have seen the term "YAP" bandied about but never known what it meant, the NBL has a page up on its site that goes into a bit of detail:
YAP Program
From 2008-09 onwards the selection panel will consider all players who nominate and those considered by the panel to have the potential to represent Australia internationally are eligible to be signed by an NBL Club as a Young Australian Player. Basketball Australia will publish by the end of January the list of players eligible to be signed as Young Australian Players.A nice bonus is that the YAP contracts allow for educational components outside of the salary cap:
The Young Australian Player is expected to be engaged in vocational or educational training and any educational expenses paid by the NBL Club for fees, books or course fees for attendance at a training course approved in writing by the NBL Commissioner are not considered basketball payments.
