No real problems with the teams, pretty spot on in my books.

I'm surprised David West received some many votes. He's really starting to blossom into a perennial All-Star. This is from a guy that was average 3ppg and 4rpg in his rookie season.

Who's giving Michael Redd that 1 vote?

That's a hateful First team. Wish that combo was possible for an all-star weekend. Maybe it we divide the conferences on a diagonal line.... hmm...

What about Yao? Missed a third of the season.

Speaking of Yao, I was just reading this article where it mentions him hoping to play in some exhibition games before the Olympics. I am going over to Shanghai to see an Australian team (not the Boomers) play China and have been hoping that Yao and Yi will play, so hopefully he'll be fit by early July.

If that was the dream team line up for this coming olympics (do they even still use the 'Dream Team' moniker?), then it'd be pretty much gameover (well, it should be - barring a meltdown like in Athens).

I still think Yao's two-thirds of a season was better than any other centre's full season (except for Howard and Amare obviously). Camby is maybe the only one who could've made it but he seems to go missing a bit too often for my liking.

That would have to be close to the best first team ever surely?

As for the second team - 2 point guards and 3 power forwards? How is that a "team"?

That team would definitely be up there lockstock as would these:

Kidd, Kobe, Garnett, Duncan, Shaq (03-04)

Jordan, Magic, Olajuwon, Barkley, Malone (88-89)

Jordan, Magic, Olajuwon, Barkley, Bird (87-88)

Isiah, Magic, Kareem, Dominique, Bird (85-86)

Robertson, West, Wilt, Baylor, Barry (66-67)

That team would definitely be up there lockstock - but I think CP3 and Howard need to be All NBA regulars for a couple of years yet for that to be a truly great team. These teams would also be up there as the best ever:

Kidd, Kobe, Garnett, Duncan, Shaq (03-04)

Jordan, Magic, Olajuwon, Barkley, Malone (88-89)

Jordan, Magic, Olajuwon, Barkley, Bird (87-88)

Isiah, Magic, Kareem, Dominique, Bird (85-86)

(actually probably any team from the 80's)

Robertson, West, Wilt, Baylor, Barry (66-67)

Apologies about the double post above.

Just one more thing on the Camby versus Yao debate. Yao scored 500 more points than Camby did even though he played 24 fewer games. You would assume there was a minimum number of games to qualify and Yao obviously achieved that.

Whilst Camby's other numbers are extremely impressive I'm not sure his 9 ppg average is good enough for an All NBA team. I wonder what the lowest ever scoring average is of a player to make an All NBA team?

I take the first teams below over this years. I'd have to go with the 87-88 team by a bees d**k over the 88-89 team (probably bias cause I dislike Malone)

Jordan, Magic, Olajuwon, Barkley, Malone (88-89)

Jordan, Magic, Olajuwon, Barkley, Bird (87-88)

Yeah 87-88 was pretty awesome. In fact the SECOND team was probably better than a few first teams:

Stockton, Drexler, Ewing, Wilkins, Malone

So basically the first and second team in 87-88 was the Dream Team in 92, minus Wilkins, adding Robinson, Laettner, Mullin

*$$#ing Laettner..... shouldn't be even mentioned in that class of players

Isaac,
Please pass on my regards to Jonas Kazlauskas! He should remember me from Adelaide & Wollongong. Tell him Casino in Adelaide and Hotel in Wollongong.

I haven't checked but in answer to your question run tmc, i'd have to say Ben Wallace in his DPOY seasons with the Pistons?

Reply #185789 | Report this post

Wallace only ever made the 2nd team. Scoring average is probably the reason?

I'm fairly sure he was referring to any one of the 3 all nba teams, i could be wrong though.

Yep, I was referring to any of the 3 teams. Pretty good effort from Wallace - he was selected in the second or third team in five consecutive seasons and didn't average more than ten points per game in any of them!

Rodman is the only other player I can think of who wouldn't have averaged more than 10 ppg. He made it in 91-92 and 94-95 with averages of 9.8 and 7.1. Mind you his rebounding averages were 18.7 and 16.8 in those two years!

My bad - in that case, an unresearched guess says Wallace.

AFAIK Wallace is lowest with 6.9 ppg in 02-03 (to go with 15.4 rpg and 3.2 bpg). Rodman's 7.1 is next I think.

Agree about Bogut, especially considering Redd got a vote!

Iverson got snubbed... badly.

played all 82 games, had better ppg, apg, FG%, and steals than T-Mac...

yet T-Mac played 66 games (62 starts), and during the all-star break said he didn't deserve to be an All-Star

Reply #185860 | Report this post

Oh thats right, Iversons not even the best player on his team anymore, and he plays with probably the most talented starting 5 in the league

All the all-nba team players were from playoff teams.
Odd that denver had the 3 highest scoring players which didnt make the team.
Lack of votes for Turkoglu saddens me.
I think Gasol and Bosh shouldve got more votes.

Who would win in a 5 on 5 on 5 game?

I reckon the 1st team would win, followed by the 3rd team over the 2nd team

I think the difference with David West now compared to his Rookie season is that he's actually getting a lot of playing time. He's obviously improved as well to warrant it, but everyone's numbers go up when you get playing time, you'd assume.

You have all missed the biggest snub out there.

Tony Parker should be on the second team instead of Nash, and to still be left off the thrid team for his team-mate Gino?

Who do you think is more important to the spurs? An X-factor bench guy or the starting point man and reigning finals MVP!!!!

FFS.
