Victoria Giants' Tiny Stadium

Was just reading that when the Victoria Giants were around they played in a tiny 2000 seat stadium at the sports and aquatic centre and that at one of their games (against the 36ers) there were only 900 people. Unbelievable! No wonder their not still around. Anyway does anyone know if there are any photos online of this miniature stadium they played in?

Think so, I should have said "at the end of their existence the Giants played at the Sports and Aquatic centre".

The Giants moved from Vodafone to the Sports and Acquatic Centre when they pretty much had zero money left. They were hoping to turn the team into a corporate supported team but found the support for them was not there (maybe largely to the way it was perceived they screwed over Goorjian the year before when he went to Sydney). The first game there they got 1700 people however many were turned away as the prices were very expensive for a team that was never going to do well. The crowds continued to dwindle with the only sell out coming against the Adelaider 36ers after the two teams had an all-in the week before at the same venue. The court at MSAC is now where the Dragons have their offices and training facilities.

Thanks for that, Knox team. Very informative.

Anyone got a photo of the court? I'd be interested to see it because it's so small.

Its not a very good picture but in the background of the cairns marlins photo you can see the seating. Unless im mistaken the seating is the same on the opposite side of the court but there in no seating at the court ends.

Ah. . doesn't Melbourne play out of the 'cage' which only holds 2,000 people?
And why are you so interested to see a court thats 'so small' Go look at where the Lightning play, you wont get 2,000 people in there, hell if you want a court with no spectator space go check out St. Clair

Knox team, you forgot to mention they gave away free tickets to everyone that went to the first giants/sixers game so they could come back a few days later to watch the next.
Was a brilliant game, Cat out suspended (fighting) & maher out with Hudson Ill, we got the win despite no-one giving us a chance. Darren had a stand out game, and CT played pretty good too.

Melbourne Sports & Aquatics Centre - Virtual Tour

Click on the show court - that is where the Victoria Giants played. From their you can view java or quicktime, has it in multiple court setup, seats fold out just like the dome to form 1 central show court. They also had temporary seating (about 15 rows) put in at one end.

Was watching a DVD about the History of the Adelaide 36ers. They mention that in the 1986 Grand Final Series against Brisbane, 12,000 people turned out to watch the Grand Final in Brisbane! The NBL would love to get crowds like that now!
