pro/rel scenario

we have seen a model put forward previously where the top summer teams are promoted a grade on results.

so let's look at u14 boys results -

div 1 would now be -

sturt
tigers
north
woodville
norwood
mavs
forestville
west
south
torrens valley ### - promoted
Sturt ### - promoted
Forestville ### - promoted

makes a 12 team comp eliminating the bye - was a 9 team comp over summer - if centrals wanted to nominate a div 1 team they would have right over forestville's 2nd team as they finished 3rd.

makes a nice even 22 round winter comp.

u14 div 2s would now be -

sturt
norwood
centrals
woodville
north
tigers
south
west
Forestville ### - promoted
Western Magic ### - promoted

this would stay a 10 team comp as only a maximum of top 3 can be promoted - if one of teams did not go to div 1 - north would be promoted as teh 3rd placed div 3 team - making a 12 team comp for winter.

no relegations were required - just expanded comp for winter - then cycles back next summer to 1 team per club in div 1

having a twelve team division makes no sense.

The whole premesis behind the pro/rel model is to allow for a more even competition and more competitive games. By having more teams, the top teams play each other less often. If anything, having 12 teams will create more blow-outs, putting us further behind in our development.

it creates a balanced round - all teams play each other twice.

Well BSA think 12 teams is ok coz there are some Div 2 comps with 12 teams.....argument settled..

What about an eight Team Div 1, with each team playing each other 3 times, resulting in 21 games.

This way we are playing strength with strength.

Division 2, split into a North and South division, each with eight teams, playing each other twice, and one game/round accross the division. Also end up having a 21 game regular season.

Maybe this scenario will help the teams that are far out cut their travelling.

It pays to look at alternative options.

174857 - a balanced round? Well that will help SA compete on a national level...

174875 - by your logic, there is no need for change. BSA have a structure in place already, argument settled!

Afroman - some logic. I like that idea. But by splitting the div 2 comp into North and South, are you just going to create more lopsided games?

10 team div 1 comp only if this thing is going to work in Adelaide. The comp to small for 12 div 1 teams.

10 teams in Div 1. 8 is too few as we need to develop depth. May take some time to grow and get stronger but it is worth the effort. As pointed out in another thread, look at what VIC have achieved with their 20 teams, 2 conferences at the top level.
Like the idea of 2 conferences for Div 2 based on regions. Has a lot of merit and may even entice more players to take part with reduced travel.

It seems that everyone is getting caught in the wood amongst the trees.

The entire idea behind this re-vamp is to create a more balanced competition, and try to lessen the blow-out games.

How does allowing more teams into a competition do this?

10 teams is what si required moving forward - we need to create more depth in our junior program and you can only do this through exposing more players to the top level. But at the same time we haver to create a structure that will support it.

Having teams getting beaten by big margins doesn't create depth. Which is the problem with a 10 or 12 team format.

We need to be competing for 8 spots, this will make clubs work harder rather than thinking they have a right to div 1.

I agree with Giraffe 13 in the 8 team grades that play 3 rounds is the best format.

It will also mean that the top 6 div 2 teams, who are usually far above the rest will play against the bottom 2 div 1 teams which will be a much better compitition than the current div 2. This will give all these players a chance to improve more

We don't have 8 competitive teams in any age group in the whole of the district comp. 4 tops!
Forestville and Sturt should play each other every week and the rest make up numbers.
