36ers Coach Interviews - The right questions

I would be interested to know if the "selection panel" will ask or indeed know what to ask at the interview process so here are a few questions they may like to consider.

What are your game philosophies, defensive and offensive for example how do you prefer to defend the pick and roll. Why do you hold these views? What is your view on the differences between the USA style and europe? Which way should we be heading or is it a combination of the two?

The team is obviously "soft", you have 7 footers posting up guards and then kicking the ball out for another three pointer. How do you put some toughness into this team?

What are your connections as far as recruiting here and overseas? Are you going to put in a youth policy and build up that way and how important is it to have a a blend of youth and experience? If you do, how are you going to achieve that? Do you think the fans will turn out to see a work in progress team or are they demanding to see a competitive team and how are you going to provide that.

If you are going to go for a youth based team and plan for the distant future will you put in your own money when I, as the owner, lose more and more money?

Apart from the team's lack of old fashioned guts, what other problems do they and also what are their strengths? How do you eliminate one and build on the other?

The team has a high "blame game". How do we get then to a accept responsibility for their own action and not bleat about the travel, the refs, the other team being too rough, the bed sheets tucked in to tight?

Will you attempt to bring back former players and coaches to build a true club where people are proud of the history and willing to help where they can?

Will you attend some junior matches to see how the up and coming players are doing and will you attend Australian junior championships at all?

Probably these are not the questions they will ask or are able to ask so I guess they will bring in a recruiting expert and ask the coaches what their first memory of a bright light in a dark room was.

The prospective coach will they say how his team always plays hard defensively and they will employ a controlled uptempo game, running when they have the opportunity and then methodically using the ball to obtain the best shot etc, etc, etc.......

Ease of the coffee Murf! I have heard the interviews go for about 2 hours. So I would imagine they would be very thorough!

Murf could you please explain to me the difference between the game in Euroupe and the USA. I am in Europe and also watch a lot of college basketball so I am interested on what your answer to your own question is.

Also guarding the pick roll would not really be a relevant questions. Which answer would be correct. It would also depend on who is setting the pick and who is using the pick and is it a mid screen, horns or side pick and roll to name a few. Help and recover, double, shadow, hug and under, hug und over, show and over, show and under, early trap, force dribbler into or away from the screen and switching are just a few of the methods that most coaches at that level would know.
