Hawks vs Taipans tonight

Not many 36ers fans won't know that we need the Hawks to win this one for Adelaide to have a chance of making the play-offs.

After just over one quarter, Hawks are up 37-22. Franklin and Davidson are both into double-figures. Jawai has 11 for the Taipans.

NBL live scores show Julius Hodge playing for Cairns, and six players on court for each team - hmmm.

In the other two games live right now, the Kings are up 45-35 over the Breakers, and the Blaze are down 27-37 against the visiting Wildcats.

Ballinger, Franklin, possibly Hodge and even Maher can all be individual game winners! At the moment Franklin has a sub par team 16 up on a team with a 'do or die' attitude!

Jawai got a dunk early, foul on the defender and then threw the ball at his opponent for a tech.

20ish point margins in the other two games tonight - ouch.

And Julius Hodge is playing a shocker. Been on court all game and has registered a stat. If only the 'score' part of the scoreboard was wrong too! Oh well.

Did we honestly expect anything different?

Sixers don't deserve to be there fullstop!

Sure they playing some great ball to finish the season. But it's the whole season that counts and the continued waiting on Chapell and questionable coaching really cost us in the end.

Look forward to a fresh new look next year (well hopefully).

crap, really did not deserve to be in it, but they way we were playing with hodge in the side we could have given it a bit of a shake. Its probably for the best in the long run as it lets the management get their shit together and hopefully push hard with decisions for next year.

I think management got their shit together last season - Ballinger and Davidson were excellent recruits. Davidson was one of the local pick-ups of the season and Ballinger has always been a top-tier import.

Hopefully they can retain the imports, tweak the rest and keep the crowds up for 08/09.

i did not mean that as a slur, i agree re those pickups even chappelle until it was clear that was not working but i was more talking in regards to getting them retained and the coaching situation.

it sucks that it had to be determined through this result! A few winable games have come back to bite the sixers.

it will be intersting to see how the off season is approached. Do big changes need to be made.? Balls must be retained at all costs and his value will be even bigger with citezenship. then obviously Hodge.

Is anyone aware if the process of renewal is postive for these two players or is there signs they could be going elswhere? Issac? Dicko?

Davidson fouled out pretty early and was doing a decent job on inside D from all reports. Than Rigby fouled out.

Add to that Cairns had ALOT to play for and theres your 4th quarter swing.

Cairns have some qualtiy players, been ravaged by injury all year and struggled to play team ball when they got a decent squad on court.

billo, we've been through this same argument time and time again. Phil could not have been entirely to blame for Chappell's delayed exit. Besides that, the last few weeks has seen the 36ers play consistently well, better than most of the teams above them on the ladder. Its a real shame that they can't show what they can do in the finals series. They are paying the price of the earlier season problems. I don't doubt for a minute that all 8 of the teams making playoffs would be panicking if the 36ers scraped in. They are good enough right now to make some upsets in the finals.

EC, I don't think you get it. The Sixers have for the last three weeks of the season been reliant on other teams losing to make the finals.

In sport, you have to make your own way and your own luck. Relying on other teams losing aint gonna give you respect, even if you are playing good ball.

It really doesn't matter in the scheme of things how well a team that doesn't make the finals is playing. We didn't make the finals because over the whole season we didn't perform nearly well enough.

Injuries, non-performing imports, tough road trips, all great excuses, but Cairns and NZ for instance both have better excuses than Adelaide in those departments. And they will be playing in the off season.

Fact is, our schedule for the first half of the season (September to early December) was soft, one of the easiest in the league (only one game against Sydney, one game against Melbourne). We didn't do nearly well enough. Who are you going to blame? Who has to take the ultimate responsibility? Or for you is it just bad luck?

xy, I would have just liked to see how different your tune would have sounded if Cairns did lose their last 2 games just like they lost the previous 2 games. The possibility was there regardless of whether the 36ers deserved it or not. I said previously that they deserved to make the playoffs purely in terms of making good use of the opportunity. They ended their season a much stronger team than most of those that do make the playoffs.
