I'm a bit of a newb and I was just wondering what IMO, FWIW, ATM and all those sorts of things mean. See them everwhere on this site but haven't the foggiest idea of what they mean.

IMO In My Opinion FWIW For Whats its Worth ATM At the Moment
NH is NN (not necessary) as there is an off topic section.
I think I prefer ATPPIT (at this particular point in time) better that ATM. It's easier somehow.
I'm pretty sure NH is "not hoops". THat the only way I've seen it used.

Non-Hoops is correct. From memory, it was used before the Offtopic category was created and, also, because the category designations are easy to miss.
AFAIK = As Far As I Know.

Saw rage against the machine here in perth last night...
AWESOME...lol, they blew the sound sytem in the first song and continued playing for 5-6 minutes tho no-one could hear them. After was fixed they were loud n proud as you would expect.
Also saw Billy Bragg for the first time...love that man.
Silverchair, daniel johns is the most talented performer in Oz at ATM.
Hilltop hoods... what a great night! :)

While were on the topic, what do the little balls that sometimes appear next to a comment or thread mean and what are they used for? Ive seen some for some funny comments or invaluable knowledge. is that it?

For topics, they're usually for notable threads - major news, 36ers/Lightning games, etc.
For replies, they're for funny posts or helpful/informative posts.
In the upcoming version of Hoops there will be different icons/awards.
