Bogut's form and Beijing potential

Bogut's numbers have been up in the last week or so including scoring a career high of 29 a few games back. As far as beijing is concerned this may seem on the surface to be a good thing, however does anyone remember how Bogut played in the last world champs (especially against USA) where he was overhandling the ball and trying too hard, obviously thinking he was the number 1 and 2 option on offence. Rupert Sapwell told me that at the 2004 olympic trials bogut went off at the coaching staff for not calling more plays for him. To be honest the best thing for Bogut to do is play the way he normally plays for Milwaukee and try not to be the teams leading scorer, just score when he can. He reminds me of watching Shane heal play for the boomers when youd cover your eyes when he forced up all those crazy shots (many of which went in), however when heal was the leading option (throughout his whole basketball career) the team didn't do well. I hope someone pulls bogut aside before beijing and tells him to be more team-oriented.

Did you see that USA game? He was playing like that because has was the only one who could do anything, short of glimpses from Newley and Bruce.

It's funny you say that he should play like he does with the Bucks. That's in the NBA. With NBA players. Even then, do you realise how bad being a perimeter team has worked out for MIL? Drew's now becoming their main target on offence. And he's delivering.

Who should he defer to with the Boomers? Bruton? Mills? Mackinnon? He'll be the best player on the team and the way he's starting to play for the Bucks is the best thing that could happen to the Boomers, we need him to dominate down low, not pass out and see us jack up threes all game.

I just hope he's matured moreso since the worlds, all that bringing the ball up and behind the back passes stuff once the game had been lost was bullshit. Plus if he played the way he plays for Milwaukee (not always being the number 1 option on offence and focussing on rebounding and defence) he'd still score 15-18 pts a game due to the standard of most international teams being lower than that of the NBA - it sounds like im proving your point but getting the other players involved you mentioned should be the priority.

Ah, but will he be able to comply with Boy Goorj's crazy requirements/schedules at training camps prior to Beijing. Top players (Anstey etc) have complained that camp requirements are not realistic. Will Bogut want a rest after the NBA season? Jawai is another obvious choice for Beijing - but Goorj (on Foxtel) stated that he will have to see what happens at training camps. Australians in US Colleges are producing high level results (Ogilvy, Mills, Maric, Bruce) but will they even be considered (other than Mills) over the Sydney Kings/Boomers - not likely. European players Newley, Neilsen, Anderson should also be in the mix but (Newley probably - but his Greek stats aren't that outstanding)? Shane Heal wants Ingles to play the point for the Dragons to help him with Boomers selection, but is he likely to usurp Mills or Bruton - doubtful. A lot of questions to be answered - and don't forget the coach IS Brian Goorjian.

Bogy will definitely be the best rebounder and possibly defender for the Boomers,
but i am not sure he can match Andersons extremely well rounded offensive game.

Saw him destroy NZ from both the post, mid range and the 3 point line.
