Investors in NBA China

The Wall Street Journal Asia journalist Adam Thompson reports that the NBA has now announced the names of the the Chinese companies that will take a 6 % minority stake in its China venture , which could include a new basketball league.

1. Li Ka-Shing foundation ( Mr Li is the HK tycoon , Asia's richest man )

2. Bank Of China Group Investments

3. Legend Holding - parent of Lenova Group .

4. China Merchants Investments

"In addition EPSN Inc , which is largely owned by Walt Disney Co will take a 5% stake in this venture."

"NBA China will oversee all of the NBA's business in China , HK , Macau and Taiwan "

"The highest-profile piece is a basketball league NBA executives hope to launch after this summers's Olympic Games in Beijing. It also plans to develop basketball arenas throughout the country (China) and a slew of marketing , licensing and media partnerships ".

Oh well, it looks like the NBL has missed it chance to get into China now, the idea of making Asian players non-imports as of next season or in the near future (to get into the Chinese market and increase the player pool) will now be harder too with all the money these guys will be making. China is still a crap national team and the average player in the league must be rubbish if Brett Rainbow played as an import there a few years ago. To be honest i hope this thing fails with the NBA. Its obviously a money-making scheme because you could harness better players in Australia in the long term if you put this sort of money into a new league.
