SAC U/14 Girls & U/16 Boys in the Grand Finals today, with the U/18 Girls just falling short by 5 points in the semi yesterday against the Vics. Hopefully the kids bring some medals home. Great results for Country especially in the U/16's with the better U/15's at the Slam.

Probably time SAC absorbed BSA which is largely redundant in that SAC provide a better program for their kids than metro offer theirs and country kids have the opportunity to do the metro gig anyway.
Metro seems to struggle to find kids and never send two teams to tourny's like the ECC only one team per age group while country, funds two teams across 3 age groups plus sends under age kids to Pt Mac. SASI and BSA is asleep at the wheel mainly because they have created so small a select band of coaches they are not able to spread themselves around.
The District comp is already full of country kids attending SASI and playing under district country coaches who promote their kids that they get several bites of the cake.
Many would believe SASI is developing country kids at metro kids expense in that some miss out simply because their spots are filled by country players.

SAC exists to promote country players but what organization exists to promote city players?
BSA exists for God knows what purpose but it certainly isnt the same charter as SAC as BSA actively promotes country players involvement in the district comp, foolishly has that comp include country zoned areas like Mt Barket and Gawler and the nether reaches of the south and leaves the development of its players to SASI which is a combined SA development institution.
If SASI supposedly exists to promote basketball talent from all over SA where is the equalising body akin to SAC to develop city kids?
SAC have a direct link thru Dean to the AIS which has been very fruitful for them and by and large only country kids get a look in so lets cut the slack and waste BSA and put some basketball body together that has the sole purpose of developing metro kids
Perhaps a South Australian Country and Metro partnership could run basketball in this state better and develop all players equally.

anon,

Country don't fund 2 teams across 3 age groups, the players families do. Albury costs $1500+ per player, the ECC costs $300+ per player. The ECC is an ITC tournament, SASI has only 10 - 20 players in each age group, with only enough players available in each age group to take 1 team.

How good would country be without SASI, metro coaches and clubs developing their players? I would say that, if you take out those kids developed through other means, country isn't producing anything.

BSA is a governing body, metro clubs provide the bulk of it's funding. In the coming months country and church will start contributing, if not they will be shut out of the BSA stadiums and BA events, like Natinals and Albury. Lets see how country is doing when it has to put $80K+ into the running costs of BSA.

#168055 yep well said.

Why oh why do we not send 1 or maybe 2 teams in each age group, bugger the city/country thing.

Why cant we just send a combined team of the best talent this state has to offer?

Lets make "representing your state" just that; representing SA, not country or metro.

Look at the country & metro teams in all age groups and tell me they wouldn't be exceptional teams if combined!

I thought this topic was SAC Results @ Albury???

U14 Girls Runner Up to Vic Country
U16 Boys Runner Up to Vic Country

If you put the better players from the 2 U16 Boys teams together they should be pretty strong at Nationals?? Is the coach of the U16 Boys Magpies coaching the state team?? Maybe he should be??

Dont drink bath water...

Yep, they would be strong teams but how strong would the Vics be, how strong would NSW be, how strong would Qld be???

All state teams are good at U20 but would eliminate too many kids at U16 & U18 level. The current sysyem is great.

All this talk about country kids getting more dips at the pie...are you serious. Maybe the kids that live that one hour from Adelaide are the ones you are biting the bit about, but in reality the kids that live beyond the Mt Barkers of the world are paying their way to be at this level. Whilst they get more opportunities, they are paying to be part of it, tell me what metro kid pays the $1500 for Albury, $2000 for Nationals, $500 odd to be with a district club, the numerous costs of being in tournaments for district basketball comittments, the cost of attending regional carnivals such as Murray Bridge tournament, Mount Gambier Tournaments, and Whyalla tournaments, all of which could be another $200 per player.
SASI - South Australian Sports Institute. Note: Not metro sports institute.
Perhaps if there are that many disgruntled district clubs/coaches with the opportunties presented to their talented individuals, then they should be getting involved in designing aprogram below ITC for the best talent in Metro like SAC have for its talented players (Blue Chips program - DNSP, ITC).
Not to mention this: Country kids balance basketball with other sporting committments and $ opportunities as well. The real tradegy there is that being country based, they have bigger opportuntiies presented to them in football and netball and lose a number of their prodigies to those sports in later years.
Tell me what you do for Metro kids District Clubs?

Anon: 'what do you do for Metro kids?'. Thats precisely the problem as there is no 'body' like SAC which is chartered to foster country talent! SASI accommodates all south australians but there is no equivalent to SAC.
BSA is an impotent body capable of massaging its body parts, making big statements but delivering little to its constitiuent members and has delivered exactly the same as its predecessor BASA- nothing but talk and promises.
Metro state teams are equally puzzling as the SASI head coach is a driving force behind metro selections and Valetta Rd is where they train etc and this creates issues as SASI is the body for metro and country.
SAC is a clearly defined body to develop country players.
I can't find any organization that functions exclusively for metro kids.
Of late, many see SASI as an extension of SAC and many SASI kids will tell you that they believe country kids are always thought more of. Whether its real or perceived such observations reflect issues under the surface and explains increasing drop outs
The lack of transparency in junior basketball has created an 'us' and 'them' mentality rather than fostering a unified south australia.

Who cares the Vics will kill them at nationals but that wont make any difference. kingsman will still favour the country kids. Just look at last years nationals results in u16 girls, SAC came 11th and Vics came first and they both got the same anount of kids for the Institute. Its an absolute laugh!!!!!
