Would you help fund the 36ers?

Imagine Mr Hemmerling struggles to find the cash to fund your dreams. His good mate Eddie's brought him up to speed that it took him 7 years of $$$Mega dumping to get a championship.
Could there be a call for some fan financed backing, like there is presently at the 'Gong?
Would you contribute?
If you did, what would be your terms?

(Mod: Made the title more specific for the non-36er fans here.)

I've had a crazy dream , since 1986, that Ken Cole would come back.
Maybe now in some senior advisory role.
If I had a lotta money I'd be leaning on Ken for advice.

Taking a tangent, but I don't think the first priority should be a championship (and consequently doesn't necessitate monstrous expenditure) but building up the crowds so that any losses are minimised. Then work from there.

Now why would you want to do that?
Because there are a lot of Hoops readers who follow Junior basketball closely and don't want to head into "Your chance" in "General" just to find out it's of no interest to them. Many are stroppy enough about junior basketball supposedly propping up the 36ers of the past!

Then stitch it into the "Sixers" (36ers?) section & don't be a tool.

Agreed Isaac

Championship success will come in good time if all the little things are done right to start with. DICKO posted something on OZHoops in regards to the Dragons sayng how he was more interested in getting the club culture right first rather than expecting instant on court success. Have to agree - if you get the little things right then success will follow

I did both, for those that go by the title alone and don't check the category. I changed the title and noted it in a mod comment.

DDFan, interesting topic which I was going to discuss. But then you went and ruined it. Is everyting (such as a descriptive title and a mod note advising of the change) really such a slight on your ego?

Play the ball not the man and maybe you will earn a little more respect around here.

By your reckoning, Cowan's willing to wear a heavy investment loss, building a culture. Resume to date, Dragons are crap, their coaching scene's in a bigger mess than ours (the 36ers), & they play out of a super expensive stadium.

Back to the new topic title, Statman, would you help fund the 36ers?

and I didnt say the Dragons had done it well at all - my comment was that DICKO had posted on OZHoops about what he wanted from the Dragons and I was agreeing with his sentiments that is you get the cultire at a club right the fans will come and success will follow

Dicko's point, I think, was that Cowan hasn't built the culture at the Dragons.

Put your money where your mouth is, & I'll hang up my boots.

Back on topic.

What's it worth to you as a 36er fan to get the little things done?

The 'Gong's asking $130, which wouldn't buy a round's worth of Powerade.

Put your petty DD sniping aside (not that I mind), & commit yourselves to the newly titled, hypothetical thread question.

Hawks are looking for 1,500 people to put up $500 per season for three years. I think that includes a season ticket (their cheapest seems to be $320 this year?).

But will that just temporarily plug a leak and delay the inevitable? Is a better solution to rejig/sell the club to someone with more backing and better ideas to get things back on track? Or retain ownership and bring an additional backer into the group?

sounds a bit like a church and a collection plate. there you don't pay to attend besides that collection but its not very entertaining!

should just have vip seats and services for a greater price for those that want to pay more to help out. solution is bigger crowds not just asking customers for more money. if mal cant afford it there are others out there.

Isaac, does that investment buy the fans some ownership in the club, eg. should it run proftably, would the $500 investors recieve a dividend, or is it just a donation?

I would invest in the 36ers, i would not donate (anymore than i already do) to them.

Sounds a great money making scheme, buy a club, let the supporters finance it until it becomes successful, then either sit back and enjoy the revenues, or sell it and retire :)

I'd have a checklist which I go through when I'm palming out money:

A) What does that get me????

B) Who's going to control my investment????

C) Will I ever see a return on my investment???

D) Will my investment grow???

E) Will I have any say in what my investment is funding???

F) Do I have the option of retrieving my investment if things turn to sh*t or I don't like the path the 'managers' have taken???

I can't see this working, and you suggesting a public float for the club, or people 'donating' funds to the club???

If they are asking people to 'donate' then tell me why I should fork over my hard earned cash, especially in todays economic status with increased interest rates, premium petrol hitting $1.55 etc etc.

If I wanted to waste dollars I'd at least pop down to the Casino and get some poker or blackjack action and have some fun.

Me, not completely sure as details in the media have been a little vague, but I suspect it's a donation rather than an investment (any more than a season ticket is an investment in entertainment). Or could be something in between, but I doubt they could afford to make it an investment that would return a profit should they get to that point.

Can't find anything on the Hawks site about it. I think any information about the scheme has been largely delivered via the media and at games.

Cheers Isaac,

in that case, bugger it, im going to invest in the Adelaide Isaacers, following from TR's post...

A) What does that get me?
The excitement that comes with being a part of the newest most technologiacly advanced franchise, we may not win..but will have the best website in the league.

B) Who's going to control my investment?
My money is in safe hands...Isaac is looking after it and the website will show an interactive graph explaining just how my investment has been gobbled up

C) Will I ever see a return on my investment?
You might just get a ride in one of the ferarris'

D) Will my investment grow?
Certainly your NEED for investment will grow (costs a lot to keep the tank full at these prices)

E) Will I have any say in what my investment is funding?
Isaac will post a poll on the site so you can be a part of choosing the colour of the next ferrari (any colour as long as its red)

F) Do I have the option of retrieving my investment if things turn to sh*t or I don't like the path the 'managers' have taken?
Ummm no, but you will have the opportunity to vent your spleen by way of the Isaacers fantastice forum.

"Invest in the Adeliade Isaacers, you will lose your money, but Isaac will have a new car"

"Secondly, I was only "narcy" through December, & it's a New Year, so hopefully we can get back to talking basketball."

"Suit yourself, I'm really not fussed, but I'm here to talk basketball from now on.
Happy New Year."

and then today
"It didnt take you long to slip right back to the complete knob that you were being last year!"

"Then stitch it into the "Sixers" (36ers?) section & don't be a tool."

A man is only as good as his word. Obviously you are not a man.

Actually, the 36ers, with their new Telstra deal, might be the most advanced franchise these days.

If I invest in the Adelaide Isaacers, then Kent Brockman can be the GM, Bo can be courtside announcer and I'll run security BUT I'd want to see the following if I'm expected to pony up:

A) Half time lap dances; with the opportunity of hummers 'player of the day' at the end of the game (pending on the hotness of the lappy chic);

B) 2 beers per quarter if we are winning or 3 beers per quarter if we are losing;

C) 1 hour per week driving Isaac's Ferrari;

D) Courtside leather recliner (makes the lappies easier) at the half court line;

E) A real coach;

F) Priority car park at the front doors of the Entertainment Centre; or Isaac to collect me in the Ferrari each home game and delivery me to the door;

G) Two players each week to play on my social team, with one of those players being either of the imports

H) Quarter time rat races with legal betting

I'd quite happily chuck $500 a season on top of my season tickets if this all happened.

Like politics, what you are promisd and what you get may differ..

(A) half time lap dances by Isaac

(B) the opportunity to queue for beer for 2 quarters if we are winning.

(C)1 hour per week cleaning Isaac's ferrari

(D)Courtside couch and Psychiatrist (see E)

(E)Phil Smyth again

(F)youll be so broke you will be LIVING in the car park.

(G) ok but the 2 players will be Mike Chapell and....

(H) following the collapse of your investment...may find yourself riding one of the rats.

heheh :)
