Google search led me to the Hunter Pirates site. He's a director of the Pirates along with Butch Hays, James Crawford and Mark Heanly.

Anytime I walk into Cessnock, they stop what they're doing and they all give me a standing ovation. A standing ovation. For me. Everytime I walk in the stadium.

And Trans U, well, I'm 3rd on the All-time scorers list, behind 2 other guys you've never heard of. At a school you've never heard of. Did I mention that Trans U is a Div2 NAIA school. That's the best college league in the states behind Div1 NCAA, Div2 NCAA, Div3 NCAA, Div1 NAIA, and most JC's. That's pretty good!!

And I'm so good, that all the years that I played here in Australia, no NBL team ever picked me up, dispite me averaging 60pts a game. Not one. No NBL teams. They said it would be a shame to take me out of Cessnock because I was so loved by the community there . . .

So the balance sheets of both Great Mates and ASS were operating with $1M IOU's sitting there to encourage the view that each was not bankrupt.

Trouble is that this represents a net loan of ASS to BM of about $0. that means the loans didn't really exist.

If the cash flow situation got better, he could just have each pay back the loans, at a cost of nothing, and then the balance sheets would return to legitimate.

Clearly he has exploiting the good nature of the Hunter Valley residents to pay for his lifestyle... and to deceive more people... people looked up to him, now they find their roll model is a cheat.

jeff is a dog he ripped me and my husband off for years working for him. its just a shame that he has taken down so many exbasketball players and rubbished there names along with his. he told my husband that he would take care of him and all the other so called brothers but all he ever did was rip them off. he doesnt just owe the govenment but all those workers who worked tiressly with those kids in terrible conditions and didnt get payed for it. i hope that he is brought home to face the music. also to face the wife and child that he has left here on there own.

Since this page comes up as prominent Google search result that people will likely read in the future (like I just did), I should clear up what's been stated above, years ago as it may have been. The internet has a funny way of surfacing dirt on people, deserving or otherwise.

My name is Tony, but I went by the name Ben Ghys when I was a juvenile in state care circa "98-2000.

Great Mates was one of the companies I was bailed in to from detention center, and I spent a considerable amount of time with both Jeff, Butch and a host of others within the company while residing at their various housing arrangements.

Right off the bat, Jeff was never in it for the right reasons and I knew, even at 17, that he was exploiting vulnerable youth and government fundings in order to make a living. He was always shifty, his staff were almost always corrupt or drugged up, & the services he purported to provide were hitched on the backs of suffering children. It was wrong.

Butch, however, is a humble and caring guy who can only be blamed for being suckered by Jeff. Any incline that the operation Jeff ran was done so as a team with Butch is complete horseshit. Jeff lived in million dollar mansions, lived a life of luxury & moved about questionably with various woman while ignoring the wife he had at home.

Butch lived in a humble home in Newcastle, a caring and thoughtful father (tragically losing a son 4 years ago) and genuinely always did his best not only for me but others around him. He was a constant source of counsel & support & maintained that relationship up until a few years after falling out of contact. Any baseless ideas that he extorted or shammed his way in to money while working with Jeff is an uneducated waffle from mere observers. I'd put my left testicle on the mincing tray to stand behind my commendations for Butch. He's one of the most genuine & stand up guys you will ever come across.

Jeff was a conman & a scam artist of the worst kind, in that - to my eyes - he used Australia's most vulnerable as a means to fund a lavish lifestyle. I feel personally exploited by that, as I was in his care.

Jeff deserves to be bought to justice as far as I'm concerned, and no doubt he'll stumble upon this article some time in the years to comes. Butch deserves nothing but the respect from the community abroad, and he'll never have anything other than that from me personally.
