Ng can step up: Maher

The Adelaide 36ers' injured skipper Brett Maher says his replacement Darren Ng will have to become a stronger contributor if he's to make his mark on the HUMMER NBL Championship.

"Each year he's been playing a little bit more and his form in the ABA has been fantastic. He's just got to bring what he's done in the ABA to the floor in the NBL - he's shown that in certain games but probably not on a consistent basis," Maher said.

I think Darren Ng CAN be a really good player, he just has to be CONSISTENT.

im tipping he'll average 14ppg while Maher is out.

14 ppg game will probably be about right - BUT his opponents will probably get well over 20 and the sixers wont win.

Unfortunately - as nice a guy as he is and as hard as he trys he isnt good enough to bring whats needed of a starting guard in the NBL.

The problem for NG is consistent court time. He dominates the ABA because he is given time to find his shooting groove. It is what he is missing in the NBL. Give him a chance to find it, give him a licence to shoot, run some screens for him and he will light it up!

Maher has to say that, Ng isnt close to a replacement for Maher, best thing he does on the court is set good screens and get the fouls called.
