LOCAL TALENT

In regards to jacob going o/s.

should the local basketball authorities get together and do their best to encourage players like jacob to stay down under and promote the game within australia?

such as employing them at a level which enables them to commit to full time ball as well as incorporate a reasonable amount of publicity work that doesn't interfere with training etc.

this would give up coming younger players opportunity to witness the development and stature of such players and maybe inject some much needed life into the game.

All payments to someone like Jacob would fall under salary cap. This must be the case ,as teams like Sydney would give their players 'jobs' with their sponsors to get around salary cap restrictions. Rumours about Kevin Brooks 'working' for Coke when he played at Sydney...

A system of transfer fees would be good for basketball the same as in soccer.

Jacob goes os the sixers get paid x$'s by the club that has signed Jacob which the sixers then share with the club of origin for that player ie Mavs.

This would then give local clubs and the sixers money to spend on paying off the Dome etc plus also give money to put into junior development for the players original club.

Interesting idea Kent but where would that leave us with imports?

We seem to import more players than we export.

Good point Doc...

It seemed like a good idea at the time though.

On second thought the imports we get could be on sold to os clubs....CT to France we get $$, Farley to CBA we get $$,

This would then subsidise the imports cost to us.

We have had the following players go os

Bradtke
Rogers
Cat
Cioffi
Stiff

That is all i can think of at the moment but with this idea we could have made some good $$ for BASA etc,

This would be ideal, especially in the case of a rogers or even cat scenario.

this would give the club involved the opp to pursue players that will draw crowds and boost popularity of b-ball in oz.
