Razorbacks... Way better than I thought

Currently watching the Razorbacks on Fox and I'm envious....

They are full of young guys with all seems to be pretty athletic, get up and down the court very well and play good defence.

I'd love to see Damien Martin in a 36ers uniform. He looks to be a very polished PG for someone so young. I can only dream Sutton could be anywhere near Martin.

Their import, Hinson is one of the better imports going around. I like his drive and kick game, plus hits a sweet J.

Add someone the caliber and experience of Maher and the low post threat of Ballinger to this Pigs squad you'd have a very very good side.

There young guys have no fear, they take it hard to the rack and either score or pick up the foul I haven't seen that much from our guys, mind you there is no one on our squad athletic enough to do what the Backs players do.

At the moment they are giving Cairns a great run...

That was one of the more enjoyable games I've watched this season....

Hinson is great, Rush and Reed are great attacking swingmen and Martin is a great young point guard... They all seem to want to play defense and all crash the boards, even their guards.

Coach Beveridge seems pretty switched and did a great job with his troops

As I said..... envious

Hinson has to be THE best import in the league this season. His combination of quickness, strength and the ability to hit the outside shot make him unguardable. He scores when his team needs him to and makes everyone around him better. He would have to be easily top 3 in MVP candidates so far.

Its interesting that during the week, Bevo got on his players backs about their sub-par defence and giving up big scores to Townsville and the Hawks. They've obviously trained hard during the week, made some adjustments and came out with a pretty impressive performance on the defensive end tonight, especially down the stretch. It shows a great coaching ability when you can get that kind of response within a week out of your players.

So many of these things are sadly missing from the sixers, it's a team like this we should be watching each week.

I guess this is a perfect example of a good coach getting the best out of his players. Every player on the team seems to give 100% and enjoy playing. Also I haven't heard any excuses coming out of this coaches mouth unlike some coach who believes it takes time to turn it around.

The difference between a good coach and the difference of a bad coach!

Do people that watched that game think it would have been a good idea to go after Rush? Even consideration should of been made that Newley was a very high risk player. Even if we did manage to get him he would probably be gone in a years time anyway. As a result it would have made more sense to target someone like Rush who will be in the league for 10+ years to come probably.

I think Rush would of been great, but at a minimum Adelaide needs a few players with the athleticism of Rush and to a lesser degree, Reed. Adelaide doesn't have any guards or swingmen that can drive it to the rack and flush it whilst drawing the foul. Defences can play up and in against us and there is probably only Brett that could drive it. Opposition team know this and use it to their advantage. We have too many soft 'spot up' shooters. Only Brett can create his own shot.

I don't think there would be any of the 36ers guards or small forwards that could of done what Rush did last night and that's throw it down two hands after a steal at the charity strike whilst pressing. The dunk he tried in the 4th with he missed was also good. Took it hard and strong with intent, just couldn't finish over a defender. If he pulled it off it would of been huge.

To be honest I think Adelaide don't spend enough time searching the 'minor' leagues here in Australia. It's well known our coach doesn't attend local ABL games. We spend all our money on retreads from other NBL teams when in reality we should be scouting SEABL, Big V etc etc for that young player. Forget the 28 year old that has bounced between 2 or 3 NBL clubs and look at the 24/25 year old with 3 years of good (in good I mean starting) experience in SEABL as the better option.

It was interesting to hear Carfino talk about the Pigs recruiting from the lesser league and finding good young players. Players like Petrie, DeVries (yes and import, but started in the SEABL), Knight started in the SEABL. Redhage is another SEABL recruit. Petrie was a back-to-back MVP, but was he ever considered by the 36ers for at least a try-out, plus he's only 24 (which is probably the issue).

I've watched a few SEABL games and it's a tough league and a great breeding ground for young players.

Devries, Knight and Redhage all played for the North West Thunder. Might be worth keeping an eye on imports next season??

My feelings after watching the Pigs last night was that Adelaide is a team which is the complete opposite.

The Pigs love to run the floor, stretch their legs, play pressing defense, energetic, chase down the man, athletic, love contact (and not scared of contact) and most importantly, seemed to have some passion and to be enjoying the game. I see the complete opposite in Adelaide. Slow, lethargic, uninterested, hate contact and play the game with little passion.

I would suffer a poor season if our guys played like that as I could see hope on the horizon given the age of the group. I seriously believe if that the Pigs added a veteran like Maher and a good big man (Abney type) that hits the boards and can score then they would be a very successful team. If they can keep this together for 2 or 3 seasons then I feel that they could be in the hunt with those additions.

Hinson hit some sweet bombs and played it up, got the crowd going and had some fun. Damien Martin is a guy I really like. Plays the PG very well. Rush to me looks like a baby Sammy Mac. Benny Knight likes to bang and can hit the occasionaly outside bomb. Reed is coming back and looks good. Hinson, I've said enough about his game... very good. Khazzou (spelling) is a legit young big man that bangs. All very promising....

I look at the Adelaide roster and see very little future potential compared to the Pigs.

As I said, most enjoyable game I've watched all season.
