Heres my full match report:
===========================

The Price Attack Women's National Basketball League (WNBL) game on Sunday between the Adelaide Quit Lightning and Canberra TransACT Capitals saw Adelaide comprehensively defeat the Caps, 85-47 at the Lighthouse in
Adelaide

Kamala Lasmshed led the home side in scoring, with 17 points, including 5/7 from beyond the three point arc, and she was assisted by Layra Summerton with 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Cherie Smith, with 15 points.

Jenny Screen yet again flirted with a tricple double, scoring 11 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists.

WNBA player Tully Bevilaqua top scored for the visitors with 18 points, with Jenny Whittle the only other Canberra player to reach double figures, with 15 points, and 11 rebounds.

The first quarter was an embarssment to the Canberra side, managing to only score four points for the term, all through the hands of Whittle. Adelaide in contrast scored 22 with Cherie Smith leading the way with six points.

Canberra just could not get a shot to stick, shooting only 2/15 for the field (13%). Adelaide also dominatintg on the early boards, grabbing 18 rebounds to Canberra's six. At the first break the scores were 22-4.

The second quarter saw the Capitals fair better, managing 14 for the term, with Bevilaqua scoring seven for the term, and Whittle also keeping the Adelaide talls battling away in the middle. Adelaide shared the scoring around, getting solid contributions from all players who took to the court.

The Capitals shooting narrowly improved, connecting with 5/15 for the term, however it still left their first half shooting at a below standard clip of 23%. Adelaide continued their dominance on the glass as well, out rebounding Canberra 35-19. Heading into the change rooms for the main break, Adelaide still maintained a 39-18 lead, with Smith on 11, and Whittle on eight for the Capitals.

Canberra continued to fight for the Lightning's defensive stance in the
third term, only managing to score 12 for the term. Angela Marino, coming into the round as the WNBL leading scorer, managed her only score for the game during the third period, with her three points all coming from the free throw line. With Coach Tom Maher forced to use Whittle and Bevilaqua excessively in the stifling Adelaide heat, the Adelaide combination of Summerton and Screen continued with their unstoppable game, whilst also heavily contributing to the defence to stop the Capitals. With three quarter time showing a scoreline of 58-30, the result was obvious to all in attendance.

Frustration crept into the game during the fourth term, Whittle receiving a technical foul after she felt she had been fouled in a shot attempt. She continued to fight on valiantly, scoring seven points and four rebounds for the stanza. Lamshed hit two three point shots during the term to take over as high scorer for Adelaide, and with the result beyond doubt, both coaches cleared their benches to give their main players a rest in the heat.

Coach Chris Lucas was full of praise for his team after the match.

"They played a strong defensive game, and stuck to their scouts, keeping up the defensive pressure."

Both teams now head to Canberra for the return, and final game of the
series between the two teams, with the game to be played Friday 3 December, with Adelaide an unassailable 2-0 lead. Adelaide stay in Canberra to take on the students of the AIS on the Saturday night, with their next home game just before the Christmas break, playing Townsville on Friday 17th December.

SCORELINE
Adelaide 85 (Lamshed 17, Summerton 16, Smith 15, Phillips 12, Screen 11)
defeated
Canberra 47 (Bevilaqua 18, Whittle 15)
At Wayville, Adelaide.

Some of the adeliade crowd are not quite as classy as our girls. One gentlemen sitting near us constantly yelled at Jenny Whittle with quite personnal remarks. Not the sort of image I'd like her to take home of the Adelaide crowd.

Yes there were some dickheads near us who were verbally having a go at Maher through the game. It actually came from some umpires, one who I know has done nothing as a player and coach and he has the nerve to have a go at Maher. I beleive he said to "talk to your players nicely" and other crap that he obviously had know idea about. Considering Maher would be one of the best coaches this country has ever had, he needs to shut his mouth. And umpiries have the nerve to say to everyone else to leave them alone. Seems to be double standards!

LOL...In the KNow...if you heard what Maher was saying, I think you would have been tempted to say the same.

I wonder if he kisses his mother with the same mouth......

Personally, I think Nathan and Phil showed great restraint with the baiting and abuse they were offered from Maher.

Maybe if the refs got there head out of their ass and didn't let the game get so rough he wouldn't have had a go at them. I do beleive he shook their hand after the game. As per usual your reply signifys what refs these days are all about. You guys can mouth off all you want with smart-ass comments but if a coach dares say anything to you or questions a call, you guys hand out those techs as your reply. You must have pretty good hearing because I was close to Maher and I didn't hear anything bad that came out of his mouth. As I said earlier, he reputation as a coach is 2nd to none and his results speak for himself.

Bias,

I have a huge amount of respect for Jan and also place her up there with the best but I beleive that her intenisity is just as much as Maher. The simple fact is Maher has players bend over backwards to play for him so I guess they don't find it offensive what he says. I guess you have never been a coach at a resonable level and really don't know what you are talking about.Remember the best woman's player in the world plays under him and I guess her continuing playing under him is a credit to him.(When she isn't injured)

Actually.....Lauren decided to have surgery, rather than play for Maher.

Australias second best player last year, Kristen Veal, decided to give the game totally away, rather than play for Maher.

And In The KNow, for someone who is so obviously NOT In The Know.....the first foul was called within 5 seconds, on Loffhagen (from memory) for taking the legs out of Phillips in diving for a loose ball from the tip.

Mahers reaction to the refs was "you are pathetic, a joke". So, you are whining that they let it get too rough, yet were being abused for calling what was an obvious foul.....which is it?

And considering in the 2nd period, Adelaide got called for 8 fouls, I cant see how you can say the refs let it get away.

I personally thought, and have seen no one else say anything, that Nathan and Phil actually called quite a decent game.

i reckon freddy nobody could coach canberra and lauren would play she has proven time and time again her loyalty lies with that city as it is close to her family and all the time she spends away from family, when she is in oz she sticks close to home.

Yogee,

The first foul that was called was a bad call. Just ask everyone around me. Loose ball two players compete for it. One players dives for the ball and gets it and then receives a foul. OK that was a great call. NOT! I also wouldn't say Kristen is Australia's 2nd best player, I think your trying to make it worst than it is. She can't even make the Australian team. Just because they called 8 fouls, means that there were not anymore? I suppose Yogee you guys all stick up for each other which is half the problem. Refereeing is at its all time worst and there is nothing being done about it. Prehaps you need to ditch the stats and pick up a whistle.

Kristen Veal has not played basketball for the better part of a year. She actually quit her position in the WNBA because she doesn't have the hunger for basketball anymore. Nothing to do with Tom Maher. And she did train with the Aussie Women but didn't want to continue to play. This was while Jan was the coach. Not that it probably has anything to do with Jan. Yogee, if you don't want people to have a go at you a) get you facts straight b) understand that just because people think that ref's blow a bad call doesn't make them ref haters c) accept that currently ref's are going to do a poor job right now because we all know that their aren't enough to go around. The result is a worse performance than expected overall.
