Hummer? Seriously how is that going to go down?
Holden will launch the Hummer brand here soon but would the NBL want to align itself with the brand that is the international whipping boy symbol of global warming?

Why would a car maker want to sponsor the NBL ?
All they have to do is look at the last car maker that was sponsor, and see that it did absolutely nothing for them. This was well written about in Wheels magazine years ago when Mitsubishi was still making a little bit of money.
No FTA TV, dwindling crowds and bugger all media coverage... seems to me the NBL just about needs to pay someone to be naming rights sponsor.
How about building the brand first. Crowds and then sponsors will follow. It's hardly rocket science.

How can you expect the NBL to 'build a brand' when they have little to no money to do anything?

They're pretty much screwed, unless someone wants to dump a lot of money in to the league for little or no return. They should have made hay while the sun was still shining back in the early 90's.

They're not paying a Commissioner ($300k or whatever it was) and have said in articles that they have decent cash reserves.

Do they have grassroots-level marketing initiatives, or is that all left in the hands of the clubs?

It's funny how they say they have decent cash reserves, yet don't seem to be able to have any cash to do anything. - no NBL magazine anymore, and no media guide despite having an extra $300 freed up by not having a Commissioner.
From what I hear there have been some big WNBL cut backs as well, and they have a naming rights sponsor.

Might just be holding those reserves for more significant projects?

Would be very interested to see numbers for the guide and magazine. Surely the magazine could break even and the guide would be similar if they sold it to the public?

If it's not a car company, why wouldn't someone like ABC Learning sponsor them, they just about do now anyway!

Actually they are no longer listed as a sponsor on the NBL website.

Didnt the soccer federation in Oz get a huge cash injection from the government for qualifying for the world cup?

it would be great is Bball was treated the same.

I was wondering what the Boomers have qualified for recently? If they have qualified for some high level comp, isnt there a case for getting a large payout from the Gov?

I am just not sure of what there is to qualify for and how that can be likened to the soccer world cup.
