State teams

Looks like the U/18 Metro Boys team is living up to expectations. Behind standout play from Ingles they have won their important games in order to make the top 4. With only Vic Country to go they are looking good for a medal.

The U/18 Country Boys Have lost 2 games already and need to win all of their remainding games for a chance to achieve a result consistant with their performance of two year s ago, including a test against the red hot QLD North team.

On the Girls side, the Metro girls might rue their first up lose to Queensland South. They now need to win their last game against Vic Country to have a chance to make the medals, which will be a tough ask.

The U/18 Counrty Girls have had a poor start, losing to WA, but had a better performance against the mighty Vic Metro team but still lost. Their backs are up against the wall with ACT, QLD North and NSW Counrty still to come.

The Metro Boys have WA Metro and Vic Country still but based on current form should take both games and finish top in their pool.

Joe Ingles currently leads the competition in points per game (22.3) and is 2nd in steals (4.8).

Jordan Dodman is 2nd in total rebounds per game (10.3).

The NZ game was on 14/18 shooting too. Joe's stats have been impressive, similar to Newleys at Knox in 2002. Little less of a rebounder & more of a passer, which the stats indicate.

SA Metro beat NZ by 15, Vic Country beat them by 31. Should be a tough match. They have Dominic Friend who is pretty big & strong, and also Taylor Bell who was around 6'7" at u16s. He was pretty skilled back then too. Stop those 2 & Joey Soleimen and they should be fine!! WA metro have Marco Deric who was also around the 6'7" mark at U16s, and should also be pretty tough. Win those 2 and we go top and avoid Vic metro til the Final.

I don't think SA Country have a chance at getting 2nd now, like this group did in U16s.

Also, here are the Stat leaders.

Joe Ingles is top in scoring with 22.3, Dodman is 7th for FG% (60%), Brent Canaway (Sa Country) is 4th with 63.6%.

Rory Craddock is 7th for 3P% with 50%, Canaway is first with 71.4% 3-point, Dodman is 2nd in total boards (10.3), Daniel Lalic is 6th with 9.3 RPG. Jordan Kies has 3.8 APG to rank 10th, Ingles has 4.8 SPG for 2nd spot, Lalic is 10th in turnovers (4.5 PG) and we have no reps in the blocks or fouls category at this stage.

You can get a list of boxscores here.

Interesting to note that 4 out of the 10 top scorers (to my knowledge) are first year 18s. Congrats to Ingles and Dodman on the stats they are producing.

The four first years
Patrick Mills (exciting shooting guard)
Daniel Jackson (explosive, agile small forward
Jordan Dodman (REBOUNDING machine)
Scott Pendlebury (Exciting shooting guard)

Once again great stats by Joe Ingles. Please sixers get him a small contract to keep him in Adelaide like we did Jacob Holmes.

Joe Ingles yesterday:

45 points, 11 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 blocks, 6 steals in 27 minutes! Shot 17/22 including 8/12 from outside. Big game, eh?

He's now averaging 26.8 PPG (5+ clear of 2nd place) at 59% and in the top ten for blocks, steals and assists.

Southern Tigers players. Always choke when the going gets tough. Joe 1/10 from the 3 point line in the semis. West boys choke as well. the reason Sott Loveday = Worst Coach EVer. Had a shot at gold and now probably wont win a medal. best sa metro team for a while.

dear the highlight,
i am not sure who you are talking about choking, but i would say ingles with 19 pionts, and 11 rebounds was a fair way off a choke...i am not sure how many times you have done that in a national semi final. getting beat by 2 points in overtime in a national semi final is not choking...go sa metro!!

in fact highlight,
if you care to take a look at the box score you might find, that it looks like the bearcats and tiger connection kept sa in the game...craddock and lalic also with good games...not sure what you are talking about???

I can remember another young SA superstar putting in 35 in a u18 semi final... :)

I think rather than choking SA had the best opportunity they'vehad in years to win after the shock loss of Vic Metro in the game previously, however, don't forget they're playing against home crowd advantage and on conditions the QLD boys are used to.

Though, that's pretty big for QLD basketball, both teams in the GF!
