Barossa Jnr Carnival WHAT A JOKE

OMG, this had to be one of the worst Carnivals ever. They really need to look at how they are running things. If they want teams to continue to go and play each year then a few things need to happen.

1. Umpires that actually care. During one game we had one ref writing on his mobile phone, another game where a ref stood on the base line for most of the game. Let the players get knocked over hit and many of them came away with injuries. We came away with more injures than we have had all season even to the extent of one of the players having bite marks on her.

And yes it was cold in the mornings but hey ref's if u actually ran up the court u would get warm hence why u wouldn't need to wear your stupid red beanie.

2. If the organiser are going to change the time table around TELL SOMEONE ON THE TEAM OR CLUB OFFICAL. We got to our first game Sat morning to find out our sen game had been changed. (that's fine). Only to get there at that time slot and find out it was in another 2 hours time.

Also we arrived at a stadium this morning (Sunday) at 8.30am only to be told that we were meant to be playing at the high school at the same time. Yet the time table only the day before said 8:30am at the stadium.

And when it came to trying to find out where and what time finals were on and who was in them all we got was a blank look and told to rock up at that time and if your team had made it then you'll play. I mean come on people do you really expect people to come back next year after this crap you call a carnival.

I think that the Barossa Basketball Club really need to have a good hard look at itself if they think that this will be a on going thing in years to come.

well i was involved with several teams that would have lots of great things to say about the carnival.

maybe if you want the ref's to show u some respect give them some. that does not involve swearing at them and trowing items of thier clothing accross the court.

losing team alway are the first to cry

and no i am not a ref

if u treat it for what it is a social carnival u mihgt have more fun

A social carnival? Ask The Organiser Anita, she seems to think its a district carnival. Teams should not get stuffed around like they do in the Barossa Carnival. Year after year it happens. Their ahve been some good times but not to do with the carnival it self, more to do with parents bonding, and kids getting to know each other. If Country SA have any self respect they need to change Carnival management or scrap it!!!

Please answer these questions:
1. Did your team loose?
2. Did you put your hand up to referee at this carnival or for that matter any basketball game?
3. Yes there was a draw change and the teams concerned where notified -did you check with your club first?
4. Did you check the webpage for the finals as they had been posted there for at least a week?

We had more complaints about the behavouir of spectators than referess, so ask yourself this where is the problem given recent reports about SA metro parents at the nationals.

Finally get your facts right again it's an association not a club

BV,
Having a go at your potential customers is not the best way to attract people to your carnival I would have thought...
All you've done is turn potential future attendees like myself (never been before) off ever going.

Oh, and blaming the "SA Metro" parents? Must be all us city folks fault...

bvaba,

"given recent reports about SA metro parents at the nationals" you need to be far more specific...

What reports are you talking about? What incident/s? Which team/s?

The statement is very, very generalised and because of that it is slanderous as it casts serious dispersions on all SA MEtro at the Nationals.

Can I suggest you explain yourself ASAP!

bvaba, I am an ex referee and to think that these people running up and down the court call themselves that, is an absolute disgrace.

How do you explain one referee eating and texting on his phone during one of my games. And when asked to concentrate instead of sms'ing people he told me that I should be more worried about my team losing. At which I said back that if he was paying attention he would have noticed that we were winning......

Also when the girl in my team was bitten and I told the ref's what had happened he said what do want me to do about it!!
And about the games changes and finals to be told to show up at this time slot and you'll find out if your playing or not, LMAO. I am just glad that there were no inter-state teams playing because that would have been a absolute embarrassment for the hole state.

i support some sort of rating system for carnivals.

wont be back - i understand your frustration - but it is only the barossa carnival - what you experienced is what i would expect if I went - standards are frustrating - but there is nothing you can do other than rub them up the wrong way.

i would put that with st clair, barossa, mt gambier, pirie, whyalla carnivals.

save yourself the stress and accept the fact it is not a front runner carnival.

let's see what west can come up with or the hoopla.

I think people should take it for what it is, a social carnival. If spectators are gonna throw abuse at the umpires they should realise it wont be tolerated at any level. we had a great team and will be back next year.

Does anyone realise that the refs were paid only $5 a 50 minute game??? OK, I know they should do their job professionally, but seriously, they would get more working at a takeaway joint or babysitting. This pay rate is absolutely discusting. It wouldn't have covered petrol cost from Adelaide.

Bearcats carnival refs were paid $12.50.

Except for JL, who was just simply... paid out!

Well it looks like the carnival is in a downward spiral then.

Less teams mean less money, less money means lower wage to pay the ref's = quality of referee that were there this year. EQUALS TEAMS NOT COMING BACK!!!!!!

I think some of you guys should settle down, it's not the classics you have to expect things could go wrong.

I have been at this carnival many times but had other obligations this year, it doesnt have the best courts in SA, some of the refs have been dug up from whatever country slums they reside in and theres always the chance you have to play on the hard, slippery courts at nuri but thats what country carnivals are about!

I know for a fact the organisers work their hardest putting these carnivals together, at the senior carny last month some of them were up till the early hours of the morning organising games and ringing teams after the ring was snapped off so dont tell be they dont work had to put these things on.

And dont cry if you dont make the finals, at least you'll be able to throw down dunks on court 2 during half-time breaks on a sunday arvo!

So it now it depends on how much the refs get paid to decide if they will take the game seriously?

So $5 per game gets you not much interest and smsing freinds during the game?

Put your hand out for the money, do the job-end of story.

I once witnessed an ref do a whole game at an adelaide school with his hands in his pockets for 80% of the time. Calls were not made because it was to cold to take his hands out of his pockets (at least that was his story after the game!).

We need refs, but no support from me when you do stupid things as written above.
