For a "basketball school" in all honesty Pasadena is a bit of a joke, what have they actually done since becoming a basketball school. I would have to go with Unley to, seem to somehow be strong thoughout all years and find a way to make finals. Also always attend the national school comp which is a good start

i would say unley, trinity, or st micheals...

by the way how two of the best always get in the same pool?

Mintabie area school would have to be the best.

They have an outdoor court and when the temperature gets below 45 degrees they are allowed to play.

They hold a great number of records:
-Winner Indulkana Championship
-Runner up Cooper Pedy Cup
-Winner of the Outback Cup over cross town rivals 'Kulgera Kids'
-Number of consecutive days without rain (466)
-Highest temperature (59 degrees)
-Longest recorded basket (53m) It was too damn hot to stand on the basketball court so the shot was taken from the adjoining oval.

Tenison Woods College has an up and coming Basketball Academy program with a US tour every second year.

Head Coach is an ex SEABL player and current assistant coach of the Mt Gambier Pioneers.
Several students play in Div 1 Junior teams in the Adelaide comp.

Best all time would be CBC circa 1993 sported 5 guys that went to play State League for various clubs and a 6th that represented Australia for the defence force team.

Smashed every team that they played that year.

Plus Hoops foavourite NBA son, TR, came off the bench from memory

What relevence does this topic have??? Its all about people wanting to say or hear they are the best, blah blah blah.

I say again, who cares. It really is of no interest or importance and not worthy of discussion.

I wouldnt normally reply but I am getting sick of these types of threads.

basketball in high schools is more social than anything, its not like america so theres no real point.

and it mainly depends on the coaches and other players

This thread is about school sport, school spirit. I love pulling on the school uniform and performing and trying to do my best at school level, this is a major thing for me. Maybe u are just sour cause u never achieved success at the school level. I don't understand why school ball isn't rated very highly. Games between the best teams (as the recent Sacred Heart vs Unley game) shows that there is a very high level of competition and can produce some great games.

This thread is about current and historical great school teams, if this doesn't intereset u then u don't have to post or read it.

School sport is a very important part of basketball in this state and must remain that way.

im not saying its not important, but unless its knock out its not really serious. and no im not sour i was in my 8/9 A's until i quit due to refereeing on sat mornings. but what im saying is that its not really important, if it wa club yes, but this is not america, its not our main competition.

i think the knockout pools are bullshit. st michaels were knocked out by 1pt against one of the best schools in the state. then the following week beat a team who made knockout by 35 pts. pedare are a joke. the way it is conducted needs to be changed

pedare were always going to get an easy draw, as they won it last year. maybe if st. micks had backed up all the talking up they did on here you and won last year they would have got the easy draw this year. But they didn't, pedare did. Get over it and come back next year.

The senior ko draws are a joke. The term 2 / 3 winter season should be made into a proper season with a premiership ladder. For finals, maybe have all schools divided into two pools. The top 4 teams from East or West (in theory but not specifically that way) play of in Conference semi's , then conference finals and then finals, (like the NBA) or the top 2 teams from both sides play off in finals crossovers or something.

Also on the best school topic, has anyone actually sen the shields with school names printed on them? Cabra is down at least 1/3 of all names and was in the final in way over half of them.

Its about a history, and continuing dominance if you want to know the better school. What school can give you a Dynasty of performance? Unley can too. Mercedes used to be great, haha like the celtics, now they are in the basement. But you go look at the shields of the champions and you will read the names. If you see the same school repeated back to back, they defended the title. Or you look at all the shields together and see that Cabra won 4 out of the 6 Knockout basketball titles in 2001. This year they most likely can do the same, looking at the draws. I hope unley will have many teams in there.

If you think the senior ko draws are a joke, you are not the only one. So many people think the same, but sassa's funding isnt great and they dont really care about producing the greatest competition. If they did, they would take the advice of all the schools to see how they can make it better, not simpler.

They have just turned the yr 9/10 and yr 8 knockout into a joke by holding the finals all on one day. 9/10 on a thursday, yr 8 on a friday. The games will be shorter and standard of the games will drop by the end of the day as fatigue sets in. It will require depth in teams, but is still not the best way of producing high quality competition.

This all better post.

Well said! I can only see a couple of problems with your theories. The first is that the system you have suggested may not always allow the best teams to win. a) because top level players often pick and choose what games they play leaving teams often undermaned for the full season. b) because the k/o comp is a mixture of ISSA and VISTA competitions. ISSA is often the better comp, but not always as shown by aberfoyle park and gghs performances last year.

And one other thing are you suggesting that the k/o competition should be replaced by the competition you suggested or simply in addition to the existing?

im suggesting it should be replaced. the saturday morning comp becomes the season where teams 'qualify' for KO finals.

this system would allow more 'better' teams to win than the current system. Also, the only way the best teams are found if everyone plays everyone, but the season is not long enough and cannot be extended much more because it will interfere with other sports seasons beginning or ending in autumn/spring. Because of this 2 conferences / pools would be necessary.

Also schools can make requests to play certain schools and this can be taken into consideration. Either way, the organisation need to put more thought into it if just to produce a more equitable system, let alone a better one.

this way schools are required to have all their players for the majority of games, not just pick and choose who plays when. Schools then have to step in between club and state associations to say that they cannot ban a player from playing school basketball because they have state/long weekend coming up. let the player decide, instead of threatening that they will be cut, because if they cut a player from state because they played school basketball the state associations are doing our state a disservice because they will no longer be selecting the best possible team for nationals.

decisions to cut players from this have been overturned in the past where the school has supported the player.

Also, all schools who wish to compete in KO will now have to compete in saturday morning sport if they wish to compete for the KO title. This can only bring in better teams and increase the quality of games where better players are then required to play for their school.

LETS BRING BACK THE PASSION FOR SCHOOL BASKETBALL!!

My school is better than yours!

Peace.

To me, an Ex-Sacred Heart Player, i would have to say that Cabra was consistently the better team in the 90's. They beat my team in three KO finals!! But since then I feel that SHC is the better and more consistent school team than any other.
