All Star Game - Fans get to have their say
Press release from the NBL :
Fans of the National Basketball League (NBL) in Australia and New Zealand are now able to vote for their favourite Philips Championship players to participate in both the 2005 NBL All-Star Game and the Townsville Bulletin NBL All-Star Dunk Competition.
Fans in Australia and New Zealand can vote by phone or SMS for the starters for both the Aussie NBL All-Stars and the World NBL All-Stars who will play in the 2005 NBL All-Star Game in Townsville on Wednesday January 19 at the Townsville Entertainment Centre ('the Swamp').
Fans in Australia can vote via SMS by sending the first and last name of their favourite player to 188 7434.
In New Zealand, fans can vote by telephone by dialling +61 2 8569 3422 (international call to Australia) and leaving the first and last name of their favourite player after the tone.
Fans can vote as many times as they like and full terms and conditions are available on the official NBL website at www.nbl.com.au.
The top five Australian and top five international vote getters from the combined results of the SMS and telephone voting will determine the starters in the 2005 NBL All-Star Game. A panel of regular NBL media will be asked to determine the reserves for the game.
All-Star voting closes at midnight ADST on Sunday 19 December with the teams to be announced on Tuesday 21 December.
"Fan involvement with the balloting process is an important aspect of the All-Star selection process and we are glad to give basketball enthusiasts from around Australia and New Zealand the chance to select their favourite players for the game," said NBL Manager of Operations and Finance, Stacey Meadows.
The participants for the Townsville Bulletin NBL All-Star Dunk Competition will be decided by a popular fan vote through nbl.com.au.
Each of the 11 teams was invited to nominate a player to participate, with all teams bar West Sydney and New Zealand putting forward a candidate. Fans can vote for their favourite of the nine candidates via an NBL website poll, with the top six vote getters then being named as the final participants for the event.
