Why we love America: moving the college 3
The NCAA rules committee have approved a rule change to move the 3-point line back from 19-foot-9, to 20-foot-9.
Students of the game would realise that the international FIBA distance is 20-foot-6. So why wouldn't they adopt the standard international distance?
Committee chairman Larry Keating said two proposals were considered. The other would have moved the line to 20 feet, 6 inches, the same distance as international 3-pointers. Both are shorter than the NBA line, which is 23 feet, 9 inches at the top of the key and 22 feet at its shortest point in the baseline corners.
"We made it a point to come up with a distance that was correct for us and that didn't necessarily mimic the international line," Keating said.
Mimic? Are you serious? What about consistency? Frank Layden said it best when talking to Marv Albert in the first (and best) Bloopers video: "Who is this ignorant American?" And to think, they still haven't worked out why they're not the best at the Olympics/world championships.
