"Barbados: It was an anti-climax in the end. After Australia were declared winners of the 2007 World Cup, the umpires -- Steve Bucknor and Aleem Dar -- refused to consider the match over.
After 33 overs of the Sri Lankan innings, the batsmen went in, the Sri Lankans conceded defeat and the Australians started to celebrate. But the umpires said Sri Lankan batsmen were merely offered bad light, and they have to come out on Sunday to complete three overs!
However, the teams managed to complete three overs in darkness and the tournament got over on Saturday itself.
For the record, Australia beat Sri Lanka by 53 runs through Duckworth-Lewis method. Sri Lanka ended up with 215 for eight in 36 overs, after Australia scored 281 for four in 38 overs.
Adam Gilchrist lived up to his billing as the most dangerous one-day international batsman in the game with a record-breaking 149 as Australia piled up 281 for four at Kensington Oval here on Saturday.
