Sporting Teams Nicknames

A bit bored today at work and saw a post from Bo Hamburger in another thread that's got me thinking.

He/she raised an interesting point, which is the penchant for sporting teams having an S on the end of their nicknames e.g the 36 ers.

Trivia question - how many teams in the major league US sport DON'T have an S on the end of their nickname.

I can only think off the top of my head of 3 bball, 3 Ice hockey and 3 baseball.

Are there any more, and no I'm not going to tell you the ones I've thought of, that takes the fun out of it?

But the bball ones should be easy for everyone on here.

the majority of "s" come from making the word a plural to make it sound a whole lot better eg atlanta hawk detroit piston etc etc so its no real surprise that the majority end in s

And because there is more than 1 player in the team.

I think a lot of the "no-s" push comes from second-tier sports who think if they develop a really cool name and associated persona, then fans/dollars will come flocking.

A lot of A-league teams have gone the no-S (Roar, Victory, Glory), and so have your WNBA teams (Sting etc) and your US Major League Soccer teams (Beckham's new team the Galaxy, and so on).

There is no "I" in team....except when "I'm" playing in the team.

The ones mentioned above are correct, and the others I am aware of are:-
