State Champs to move?

The state government has announced the Adelaide Cup holiday will be moved to March from 2006 to avoid poor weather for the racing carnival.

Does this mean our championship will have to be moved as well. If so will it have any significant effect. Will teams have to prepare differently over Summer, particularly the Under 14's preparing for Club champs qualification?

Will interest in the Norwood Carnival be reduced?

Good question Solid.

I think you'll find the State Gov will keep that Monday as a public holiday in May anyway - it will be known as "State Champs Monday".

Why not leave the state champs where they are at the moment as it fits in well wilth the basketball year. Play Friday/Saturday/Sunday have a weeks break then play the grand finals on the following Sunday. Teams involved in finals could still play there normal junior comp before finals on the Sunday. BASA could then promote the finals at one or two stadiums as the best of junior basketball on a "Super Sunday".

Good point however not one that cannot be solved. How many teams weould we be talking about? Country teams that make the finals can travel down for the following Sunday with the cost off set by BASA.

Staging the champs over two weekends would be great if the issues could be sorted out with Country teams. Div 3 teams and below may still be able to play there normal season games - depending on the availablity of umpires.

Injuries on the weekend are a big problem and having a staged event could lessen their impact.
