Humphries has not been shy in promoting his trip to the windy city. I have no real idea why he is there but would think perhaps some college visits...

I'm interested to know the same thing.

How do the following compare to Bogut (at the same age)

Footwork
Post moves
Speed
Handle
Strength
Rebounding
Athletisism

Heard he was getting looks from UCLA and Saint Mary's, but obviously those schools are a long way from Chicago. What hoops schools are even in Chicago? Depaul maybe?

Just to help clarify, here are your NCAA D1 schools in the state of Illinois:

•Bradley University
•Chicago State University
•DePaul University
•Eastern Illinois University
•Illinois State University
•University of Illinois - Urbana/Champaign
•University of Illinois - Chicago
•Loyola University
•Northern Illinois University
•Northwestern University
•Southern Illinois University - Carbondale
•Southern Illinois University - Edwardsville
•Western Illinois University

Thanks LC. Outside of Depaul, none of those schools make any sense if he is really being recruited by the likes of St. Mary's and even UCLA. Maybe he's just on holiday.

Jesus... Some people hey.
@Anon "Outside of Depaul, none of those schools make any sense", how about University of Illinois - Urbana/Champaign otherwise known as the 'Fighting Illini'.

They're in the Big 10 and have a respectable head coach in John Groce.
I would also go as far as saying that The University of Illinois sits higher then St Mary's (WCC), and Depaul (Big East)..

BooBoo - fair play, overlooked that one somehow. It is listed in the midst of an obscure list of universities I have never heard of.

Maybe one of these places is offering him and his family more cash then ucla or St Mary's.

More cash? You kiddin? College ball is strictly amateur. All I will say is very curious timing given pending China tour.

My point about Northwestern is that they play in one of the strongest conferences.

Isn't Chris Collins coaching at Northwestern now? That was a hire that indicated that they actually care about their basketball program, for the first time in a long time. It's one of the better academic schools on that list, too (I have no idea if that matters to Humphries). But great coaching, great academics, no expectations, and guaranteed hero status if you so much as make the NCAA tournament sounds good to me.

Any offer Humphries is getting from a school would be a "full ride" scholarship so none of these schools could offer more than UCLA or St. Mary's unless they literally pay him under the table. I still think he goes with one of those two. California tops Illinois any day of the week. If he wants big program / high pressure, UCLA. If he wants to be the big man on campus, his accent alone could accomplish that at St. Mary's. Both schools will be in contention for the NCAA's anyways.

The kid's only 16. Surely he'll get offers from more (and better) schools over the next couple years

Find it funny how people throw at St. Mary's like its a good school.

They are a small school and play in a weak conference.

Just becasue they had a couple of aussies & were on ESPN a few times doesn't make them a good school

And St Marys is a fair way off getting back to the NCAA tournament!

Besides Duke, Kentucky, or North Carolina, UCLA is in the mix for one of the best basketball schools in the USA so it's not like he could get much better offers.

Tiger Watcher, when was LSU last in the tournament? Lots of faith in David Patrick...who came from Saint Mary's in the first place!

Anon, given the high level transfers and recruits they have coming in I'd say they have a good shot of reaching the NCAA's next year.

Bashing St. Mary's is like the Mills hatred on this forum. Illogical. Say what you want about conference weakness, their coach has been outstanding at finding and developing Aussies. Delly and Mills start for the Boomers and were pretty much unknown heading into college. Greenwood opted for a higher conference and has had an average career and only improved his game marginally.

Humphrey's has to do what's best for him but I wouldn't count out St. Mary's. If more big dogs like UCLA come calling though, those offers will be hard to pass up.

I started this thread because I was hoping Isaac was planning a smart way of getting attention in the US (for future opportunities, namely college) leading up to the world champs. It was my thought/hope he was going to be playing in tournaments or an exhibition, similar to Ben Simmons or Thon Maker, etc at the same age.

I didn't necessarily think at 16 & 5 months he would (& should) be visiting College (schools) but maybe the right high school/academy. This process/plan has worked very very well for Ben Simmons, Jonah Bolden, Thon Maker and Deng Adel, et al...

As a high end prospect this would be a very smart move as he should gain a lot of attention from the under 17 world champs.

in regards to the Bogut comparisons, its hard to say as at Isaac's current age Bogut was going through his major grow spurt but in the years leading up to the under 19s it will be very interesting to see how Isaac performs/develops.

Also the beauty of St Marys isn't that it's a big school it is the head coach and development opportunities. Saying that I don't think isaac will be going there. All going to plan he will go to college at major school as he has potential (at this stage) to be an elite player.

I wasn't bagging Mills/Delly or the coach of St Mary's who has done well with the program, the program did find a couple of gems from Australia to help his cause for a few years and good on him for that.

All I did was state the are a mid-major team and in a weak conference so the standard of play outside of the Zag's & BYU isn’t traditionally very good. (Please note 1 or 2 transfers or good recruits can change that)

The point you make about LSU is valid but they play in the SEC which is home to some power schools (Kentucky, Florida) plus the LSU program is making a major recruiting push in the next 2 years to put themselves back on the college hoops map plus the facilities they offer when compared to St Mary’s are in a different stratosphere!

Nothing against St Mary’s they d well for a school there size and have had success along the way but because they picked up a few aussie and had a tourney run plus some ESPN coverage doesn’t make them a great school.

The only time they get national recognition in the USA is if they make a deep tourney run, as the big conferences automatically get recognition and exposure as they regularly have games nationally televised.

True enough tiger watcher. LSU's facilities would be significantly better and there's no comparison between the WCC and the SEC. However, just being in major conference doesn't equal national recognition. Successful Mid-Majors like Gonzaga, Butler and Creighton would get more attention than LSU. St. Mary's is not quite on that level (although they knocked off Creighton and Gonzaga several times during the Delly era), but they have been a top ten mid major over the last decade by anyone's standards.

This isn't the early 90's. The Big East is a shadow of what it used to be and adding mid-major teams like Butler and Creighton does not make it much better. They got 4 bids (barely) - hardly high major status. Geography aside, Gonzaga, BYU and St. Mary's could play in that league.

Not pretending to know that much about college ball in the states first hand, I do however believe that any Aussie kid over 6'6" or 6'7" tall (and Isaac is nearly 7'), who has talent and can play the game is very sought after.

He will not need to push the barrow too far to attract interest from top schools I am sure.

Good luck to the boy, in a couple of more years time (maybe 3) I am sure he will find a great fit, as that is more important than shooting for a glammer school IMO. He is a very good student from what I hear and therefore has everything a Div 1 college would want.

Seeing as the Big 12 and Big 10 each got six teams into the NCAA tournament last year I would class them above the Big East. Apparently anon cannot count...

Dumb move, if true. No High School in America has the sports focused mindset of AIS. He will get better training and coaching at home. He's no Maker - no way a premier high school like Oak Hill takes him and he would probably be better off at AIS even if they did. AIS puts athletics over academics and develops kids like pro athletes - great for the kds, but such an intense/blatant set up would simply never fly in the States.

The SEC is a great football conference. In Basketball it is top heavy. Bogans pretending to know about college basketball are way out of their depth. The top 3 ACC, PAC 12 or even WCC teams would destroy the bottom half of the SEC year in and year out.

Which is not what you said. You were saying a team was a power conference, or a mid-major, based on number of qualifications for the NCAA tournament. I guess when you have your own logic used against you you have to kind of change your reasons for suggesting it though - good try!

It might be a bit top heavy but let's face it, you only get a game in SEC if you can play. Think back to Hawaii a few months when an average South Carolina Gamecocks outclassed this season St.Marys.
